sheesh looks like they got to this one just in time - it's always a tragedy when one collapses in on itself..

also not sure if it counts as a true mansard roof as they are angled on all four sides and tend to standalone - its more a combination of mansard and crowstepped gable..

The old Poineer gas station at 1551 Main st west is being demolished as I type. It’s across the street from Brinkley United Church which has a proposal and that stretch is full of proposals. Anyone know anything about this one?

There's only a permit to demolish, and it mentions a site plan. Perhaps the site plan map might have some more information.

Anyone got any idea what's going on here? It was for sale a while ago and now there is a "project"

whatever it is, it's interesting.

Look at their portfolio, a healthy mix of nice, tasteful mid-rises in Toronto:

A revitalization of that property / demolition and replacement with a tasteful mid-rise would be a great thing for that stretch of James.

While I think there is something of value under the years of neglect, and I'd hope they retain the historic frontage, the back 3/4 of the property is definitely underutilized, and could easily be 4-6 floors on this property.

I'd also really like to see this area of James fixed up a bit before demolition of City Centre since it will be barren and ugly for a decade while City Centre is redeveloped.

Electric Diner will be taking the old Wendel Clark's space in the Lister Block.

I wonder if this will be a move, or a second location?

I really hope second location as their location at George St has really created a life there that wasn't there before.

I believe the report says it’s a second location for them.

Yussss. So glad to see this corner soon to be animated rather than this lifeless vacant unit.

Leaves me wondering when CoreUrban will finally lease up the retail space at 53 King St E as well.

We are (finally) seem to be pulling out of COVID lockdowns for the restaurant industry, and downtown's population is increasing more and more with roughly 600 units reaching occupancy in the last 6 months and more coming..

Core Urban also has a smaller space between Hughson and John on the north side of King St.

Noone should be allowed to touch the facades of the downtown core except for core urban.

That's been empty for far too long.

Used to be a Chinese restaurant (the Forbidden City, I think, before they moved) but I can't recall if it was anything after that.

I could not find a thread for this one. The old Wimpy's Diner @ 405 Main Street West

Taken today - May 26th, 2022

Their new location is 875 Main Street West, where there has been a variety of restaurants, including Kelsey's I believe.
