The good weather train here in Japan has been put on a short pause, the last few days have been the first taste of the wet season...

Right now its a weird awkward temperature of 19 and 90% humidity, so nothing you wear feels comfortable, a constant battle between feeling too cold and too warm.

A chilly 13c today, again 7c below normal. Hard to believe May long is a week away.


I did make the most of it and enjoyed a round of Golf in the apple blossoms.

31C with a humidex of 35 and sunny! 3rd consecutive 30 degrees day. Today the humidity was actually noticeable. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Downtown Montreal with a low of 21C this morning. First tropical night of the year in Canada.

Timmins ON was 32C today. I installed the air conditioner upstairs so that we can sleep well. We had thunderstorms during the evening with amazing lightning. Our grass turned green very quickly and the leaves on the trees are starting to come out which is early for here compared to most years.

13C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 16C this afternoon.

We've already had some showers overnight (much needed as the leaf litter on the forest floor left over from last fall is very dry), and more showers are expected for the next couple of days, but then the sun will return and temperatures will rebound to 26C by next Saturday.

This is a photo rich thread, so I decided to include this photo I found online here too.



The photo is not current, but also appears to have been taken in early spring, so I think it's fair game.

The photo is of orchards on the banks of the Petitcodiac River about 20 km south of Moncton in Pres d'en Haut (Memramcook). This area is home to a number of commercial orchards (most notably Vergers Belliveau), as well as a couple of wineries. The microclimate here is similar to the northern Annapolis Valley across the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia.

What a truly fantastic stretch of weather we've had. The last rain drop that fell in this area was on May 4th. We've had 11 back to back days of pure blue skies and decently warm conditions. Yesterday was 29C with sun, today around 26C with sun.

This coming week looks to be more up and down. Cooler tomorrow with rain (13C), continuing cool Tuesday (13C) before warming up mid week to 18-25C.

What kind of variety of fruit in this area is grown?

And I didn't know about the wine region out there, that's fantastic. How are the wines out that way?

Just apples and grapes AFAIK. There are no pear orchards like in the Annapolis Valley.

I don't want to overstate the wine industry in southeastern NB. There are no more than about a half dozen wineries in the area. The Magnetic Hill Winery in north end Moncton has had a few award winners.

Off the top of my head, there are two vineyards in Moncton proper (Magnetic Hill Winery, and the Pumphouse Brewery also operates it's own vineyard on the same ridge overlooking the city), and there are at least two, possibly three small wineries in Memramcook, and a small fruit winery in Baie Verte on the Northumberland Strait.

I saw as high as 33 on my car's thermometer on my drive yesterday in Mississauga. Got up to 30 in Haliburton on Saturday as well.

Beautiful, hot weather. The lake up north was up to 18 degrees when I left on Sunday, and I jumped in quickly. Probably the earliest swim I've done that I wouldn't consider a "polar bear dip".

The leaves in Hamilton completely popped out over the weekend too. The difference was even more stark in Haliburton, which went from almost nothing budding last weekend to leaves out this weekend.

Awesome thanks for the info, they look like some nice white wines. Nice tasting patios! Good to see some of the other wine regions across the country flourishing.

Yesterday was COLD! Hit a high of 12.9c and showers most the day, could see my breath out for a walk. Just a damp day altogether.

Today is getting somewhat back up to normal (although still a few degrees below normal), high of 18 with a mix of sun and cloud.

The Cool Spring is forecasted to continues as Wednesday is forecasted to be 12c and thunderstorms with 5-10mm of rain

Twas a beautiful day yesterday, sat on the deck until 10pm. low 20s by late afternoon, and the spring air smells great. Interesting how the new aspen leaves have a spices aroma.

Also cleaning my pond and found a frog in it for the first time.

Cloudy and 9 degrees at 3pm. Temperature is down from 11 earlier. Feels nice after a frigid weekend with high around just 3 degrees. This week is looking fairly seasonal, with temperatures well above seasonal for the weekend.

I myself also purchased a weather station along with SHH, so once that's set up I'll begin reporting weather from my back yard instead of the CBC station, which is fairly close to my house anyway (~ 700 meters) but my neighbourhood is in a slightly protected valley, which will be interesting to see . I'd expect some cooler spring/fall mornings and maybe some nice summer afternoons. Area is too sheltered for any meaningful wind readings though.
