I had no idea. I need to head out there again. I buy legos for my kids all the time and have frequented that place on and off for the past 20 years. Sad to see it go.

And it's not as though these aren't long lived local businesses, they are. The one I'm talking about specifically that comes to mind now that I just visited it this weekend again for the first time in a few years, is Anna's Toy Depot in the Brodie Oaks Shopping Center. It's a place I first visited 30 years ago as a kid and ultimately introduced me to LEGO. For anyone who knows me well or who remembers me mentioning it here, I collect LEGO. I have over 100,000 LEGO pieces. I would go there pretty much every weekend and buy LEGO. I went this weekend, and the guy who works there told me they're planning to close at the end of the year. Granted, Anna has been operating the business for 30 years, but there was never any indication recently that she had planned to retire or close. She's always had her locations along South Lamar but had moved several times over the years. Once the news broke about the Brodie Oaks Shopping Center, I immediately thought of her since she had just moved there not too long before then. I don't know how soon the shopping center will be redeveloped, and honestly, I don't care about it. I love what they have planned for there and I'm excited about it. Still, I do hate that every small local business has to operate here with the constant threat of having their location redeveloped.

How did my Anna's toy depot reply end up on the wrong thread?

I haven't really bought Legos much recently, but I have gotten 4 models from Cobi on amazon. They are an off brand Lego that does replicas of WWII vehicles. I've done a Mustang, a Corsair, a Messerschmitt BF 110D, and a Tiger tank. They're pretty cool.

Further off topic here, but I bought these recently. They're pretty sweet! With these and some other LEGO I bought recently at Anna's, I have over 125,000 of them now.

Fees on the ROW permit with a start date of 5/14 have been paid and it is now showing as active on the city permit portal. Fees total over $100,000 which I imagine wouldn't have been paid if start wasn't imminent.

Hopefully these pushes aren't a harbinger of things to come!

I don't think so since they have the construction trailer offices all set up. It must be some last minute issue with the City about the ROW closures. There is a lot of utility work and other stuff going on in that area.

So much dirt in that pic!

I've walked over there a couple of times and have a hard time visualizing just the two projects (98 RR and the Travis #1 and #2) in all that space. It almost seems like there's enough room between the two for another project.

We're probably among a rare group of people who get excited about dirt looking out of the window while enjoying a stay in a high end hotel. But that food pic is really not doing anything for me.

Hopefully that isn’t their “room service”.

My first thought was they must have picked up something to go at IHOP across the street to save money because the Fairmont is so expensive. But IHOP food looks better than that.
