Looks like Eurowings may not be happening afterall.
No flights bookable until August now.
Very late for them to be pulling the plug for a late May start.
Bookings must not have been meeting expectations - probably shite
So that leaves KLM and Edelweiss (operates 2 flights per week mid June - mid Sept) as the two foreign long haul carriers this summer.

Eurowings seems like something that would only work once we're completely over Covid (as in flights are completely back to normal and there's no fear of restrictions). Especially now that they'll basically replace Condor-they'll be successful but S22 is not the right time to launch.

That’s okay Eurowings doesn’t operate to Calgary, as with them pulling it will help WestJet, Air Canada & KLM etc, have more demand on their Europe flights, to or from YYC for Spring and Summer 2022.

To be fair, a May 23 start was overly optimistic. Alberta (heck Canada in general) is still pretty cold in May.

I was in Banff 3 years ago in mid-May. The temp never went above 5C-10C and it was snowing often.

A late June, early July start for a summer seasonal route to Canada is the norm anyways, so even with an August 1 start, Eurowings isn't too far off the mark. Flights are still bookable until October 15.

Seems like for YYC yes. Just seems very late to pull the plug less than three weeks out. Surprised they didn’t delay until the last week of June or early July. To cancel all July flights definitely not a good sign for bookings. Whether they fly at all this year the jury’s still out. I read on another forum the flights are all being scrapped for summer 2022 but who knows.

Acey's posts on airliners seem to suggest they pulled the plug on YYC. They advised the airport authority and ground handler that they aren't coming this summer.

If true, I find it ludicrous that they are still accepting bookings from August 1 to October 15 on their website.

It's very disappointing for sure. At first it seemed like Eurowings would basically replace Condor but now both are gone for the summer...not good.

Around 90% LF for inaugural WestJet to Rome tonight.

Edit: westbound is around the same

They have removed Calgary from their list of “experience our new destinations” page so probably safe to say summer 22 ain’t happening.

I wonder if NRT ever comes back. It's kind of sad that we used to have PEK and NRT year round and now both are gone.
