Shouldn't this ranting about the red colour be move to the thread about the building its about instead of 180 Metcalfe?

I think the red rant is relevant to 180 Metcalfe because no matter what they do with the brown cladding it will still have that ugly red cladding on it's neighbouring buildings to detract from it.

They've started putting up the glass walls and the quality looks amazing! The pictures doesnt do it justice in my opinion. Its worth going in person to have a look.
Its not often you see buildings in Ottawa with facades made completely of glass

WOW. Floored! Genuinely excited to see this completed, the materials look amazing and these glass towers ever so present in every major Canadian city are a rare find in Ottawa!

Would love to see more of these around town!

Who is the architect/design firm or builder of this project?

Didn't realize they were doing a full glass wall which is awesome and will help it to stand out from the other building a block away. Being from BC originally I'm used to glass towers and it will certainly stand out and help to provide some contrast amongst the rest of downtown

RLA is absolutely capable of decent work. So far Soho Italia is very impressive, and The Dale is alright too. I wonder why they default to the cheap looking charcoal brick and beige copy paste garbage so often. Maybe they only excel when the developer demands better.

I think you have it right. Ottawa developers often build cheaply because this city allows them to. It is the best way for a developer to make a big profit rather than a smaller profit. If a developer wants a better design, then RLA can put more time and effort into it, at a higher cost to the developer. Developers can buy better cladding too,if they are willing to pay the price. In Ottawa, they often do not want to. Kudos to those developers who do occasinally put up better structures.

Which is why I'm terrified that if Trinity Centre goes forward it will end up like the bait & switch travesty at Rideau + Chapel, which in my opinion is the biggest let down in modern history (so far). That's one project where the developer HAS to pony up for quality cladding and glazing.

Clearly CP 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 is the greatest letdown of the last 30 years and will leave a permanent scar on that area. But I get your point about R+C.

Claridge Canyon is Claridge though, you had to know it would be garbage. Rideau + Chapel had these amazing heights and renders from a developer trying their hand at residential, it was very exciting, but ended up being RLA's worst building (and that's saying something).

Rough estimate:

Completed or mostly completed this century, we have Pinnacle, Onyx, Loop x2, Tribeca x2, ReResidences, Royale x2.5, The Laurier, The Bowery, Gotham, Cathedral Hill, The Mondrian, Hudson Park x 2, The Gardensx2, Soho Lisgar.

Excluding the Merit and Claridge Lebreton because they aren't well integrated into Kowloon Walled City, I mean, The Great Clump.

Average of say.... around 200 units per tower.

Maybe around 3900 units, although I might be missing one or two and there have been some conversions.

Agreed - at least the materials are shaping up to look pretty good. It should give a slightly more modern feel to the skyline when looking from the south

Won't it be a bit higher than Tribeca, given it was approved at the higher height of 30 storeys?

Based on the approved elevations (roof level - level 1), the height will be 93.53 meters (as opposed to 87 meters on the title). Forum has Tribeca as 84.5 meters. But the Diagram page has Tribeca west as 95.4 m.

Sooo... inconclusive. But considering Tribeca has a heck of a crown, I think it will remain taller than this new project, if ever so slightly.
