I drove past and through tonight, the Starbucks has paper on its windows, Panago Pizza has installed its signage, the Sushi Street also has its signage and I got a glimpse of a mural on the inside as people were coming out, so its looks like the interiors are done or close. The Reux looks completed, there were quite a few people inside, some sitting at a table while it looked like some finishing decor type work was getting done and it looks like it could open soon.

Any idea if Sushi St is open for business yet? Their menu is on Skip, and their hours are as well, but maybe they are just doing delivery for now until the restaurant itself is completely finished?

I just walked by Sushi Street and the windows are still covered over.

Fresh Healthy Cafe is officially open.
Reux opens on mothers day (resos are already full, walk in only left).

I was excited to try Ruex. But it’s way too expensive. I saw the menu in their Instagram. Their avocado toast, berry parfait and waffle fries with dipping sauce are all $19 each, eggs Benny is $23 and omelettes are $24. No one wants to spend that kind of money at brunch. Especially in Surrey but who knows. The competition is minimal so maybe they will. I certainly won’t. I had much cheaper brunch at Glowbal downtown the other day.

You would be surprised that people will spend money for an artisan style culinary experience rather than spend almost the same for a restaurant chain experience. For example, look at the success of Cafe Medina downtown.

Cafe Medina is much cheaper. For example:

Cafe Medina
Avocado toast $9
Granola $10.5

Ruex
Avocado toast $19
Granola $17

I would believe people like the artisan brunch experience because I am one of them. But those prices are crazy. Especially for Surrey. Maybe if this were in a resort on the beachfront. But not in an urban plaza of Fraser highway next to a save on foods

people in Surrey have money. Factoring in the cost of a trip into Vancouver plus parking and other expenses it will be a bargain. There are a few expensive indian restaurants, one is designed by Karen Bohn (famous local designer had a show on netflix) and is quite popular out here.

Not many higher end dining options out here, especially Surrey Centre.

The prices need to be balanced, they are way too high in some areas, and fair in other areas. It might be a work-in-progress kind of a thing as the restaurant goes on.

Has anyone tried out Fresh Healthy Cafe yet? I might drop by to grab some light dinner options if they are open around 6!

There's 2 office buildings right next door, the CRA building and another office tower being built across the street. There's a decently sized professional population to pull from during lunch or after work

Karen Bohn also designed Ruex. So maybe that’s why it’s so expensive.

I was looking at the menu and some pictures in the reviews, which are currently all 5 stars. That menu is very labour intensive and quite ambitious. They use Pave potatoes as hashbrowns, that's a very time-consuming dish. Hopefully, they can keep it up and workable.
Having a decent place for evening drinks will be nice, i'm not one of those people but there are really no options out here other than maybe sitting at the bar of Browns or White Spot lol.

There’s also browns socialhouse and central city pub in the area. But, you’re right. I’m not going to complain about more options. Surrey overall is lacking in this department. Big time.

Edit: didn’t see you mentioned browns already lol

That's the one in the hotel by city hall? Forget that those places exist lol.

I know Surrey has some pubs but they are all far away like Newton or Scott Road, Etc.
