Anyway, they should take a long hard look at Bruce B since Vancouver is dissing him. And James Patrick should get a solid look too. Those two would be very different choices with different pros and cons. Bruce being the safe choice but Patrick could be the next hot NHL coach.

It feels like Jets management really neglects the culture of the team and locker room issues. They deny deny deny even when we know. Kane asked for a trade every year and was a major problem and Chevy shrugged until Buff threw him off the team. Laine basically pointed the finger at Wheeler and Sheif and Wheeler even took blame. Reportedly Sheif wouldnt play with Laine.

Ehlers gets shafted because Wheeler is glued to the 1RW spot.

Scheif seemed to sulk even more when PLD was brought in rather then enjoying a deeper team. And PLD saying he has things to consider, you really wonder if he means leadership of the team. Trade Sheif for a huge haul (if he's a problem) and build around PLD, Connor, Ehlers, Josh and the other young players
I think it's clear to everyone on who the team needs to build around. Maybe just not the team yet. I dont know.

Scheifele will fetch a huge haul. Wheeler demoted to 2nd/3rd line role for the remainder of his days. I'd like Stastny to sign and play a lower role on the team. Good mentor for the young guys. Perfetti was looking great before the injury and can step into the 2C role with some more seasoning. If Scheifele goes, the 2C role needs someone and I'm just not sure either Perfetti (yet) or Stastny are it. Maybe I'm underselling Perfetti at this point.

What — is we finally have real C depth. But if we trade Sheif we would want a 2C in return. If not, it would be pretty important to resign Statsny who played great this season. And while he's aging, he's fit and very smart and could be a great mentor for someone like Perfetti.

It would — to start the season with Stastny and Perfetti rotating the 2C and it not work out. But I fear Chevy's answer would be to sign a crappy veteran and force him into that role even if he —.

I saw a great tweet thread today that was true. The Jets management lie to the fans. There is something rotten on this team. We dont expect them to air the dirty laundry in public but they also dont seem to deal with it. And it festers until you have Kane or Laine or Trouba or whatever...Scheif now.

Stop lying to us. Fix it. I worry that Chipman is close to Sheif and just wont let him go. I dont know.

In a city like Winnipeg, I cannot believe that word has not gotten out about the battle lines and divisions within the Jets dressing room. It sounds like this has been going on for years now. Do the sportswriters just not know, or are they too afraid of getting blackballed by TNSE if they spill the beans?

We've all heard the rumours so the sports writers have too and they're in a position to know. I think they dont cover that stuff because it feels too salacious and likely no one will go on the record. And the sports writers are all likely treated really well by True North and dont want to impact that.

There was always a reflex among most of us to ignore "rumours". But its like all that stuff with Kane. And people would say its all BS and he's a wonderful guy who gets along with everyone. And then the Buff thing happened. So there was fire to the smoke.

When sports writers talk about "Scheif seems off this year," its probably code for something they cant report.

They have to know. They personally know all of the players, especially ones who have been here for 10 years now. Maybe that's why they don't say anything. And also yes their access to the team is on the line.

I realize that the writers who rely on being in the dressing room getting quotes, etc. have to walk on eggshells to a certain extent. But how on earth can they not have columnists who can just fire away with truth bombs?

Back in the 80s and 90s the local print media could be critical to a fault of the Jets, just ripping them left and right. And everyone seemed to carry on without getting too butthurt over it.

What is TNSE going to do if Paul Friesen, let's say, writes a column where he gives us the real goods on what's happening? Are they seriously going to lock out every member of the Sun sports desk in retaliation?

It's such a BS thing. I don't even really pay attention to interviews and such cause they're mostly lip service.

Off topic a bit. It's kind of like the police service. They can bar you from their pressers if you ask hard questions. There's no legal or formal process. Edmonton police have been doing this. Seems like both WPG and EDM have similar things going on with the Police.

I was thinking about this after Bob Irving tweeted about a reluctance to trade Sheif. If 55 is demanding a trade, thats one thing. It still doesnt really matter since he's under contract. But if he would be happier elsewhere but committed to his contract, that still leaves a decision.

He would fetch a big haul. Two years left at a very good contract. A lot of teams would line up for him. Even if it meant a one season step back, is it better for a future where PLD, Connor, Ehlers etc are in their prime?

And I dont think it would necessarily lead to a step back. It depends on what comes back. His offense would be hard to replicate immediately but they won without him.

Keeping him, your window is pretty obvious. You've got two seasons before changes are forced upon you with Wheeler, Sheif, Helle expiring. Are you going to re-sign 55 at that point to a monster contract akin to over paying Wheeler? Is 55 just going to walk away since he could get huge offers from all over?

Trade him now for a massive haul and you reset your window and extend your contender potential. Contingent on a long term deal for PLD of course.

Wheeler Im less concerned about. But obviously leadership is an issue. id just as soon see the C go to PLD. Wheeler seems to have a ton of pride which doesnt serve him well in all situations so stripping him of the C would likely be akin to when the Jets 1.0 stripped Tkachuk and gave it to King.

Wheeler would be hard to trade as well, with his deal. He's possibly a deadline deal next year for a team trying to win who might be willing to eat his final year. Jets could also buy him out next summer if they wanted. If they can trade him this summer, especially if they also trade 55, that is a massive change to the leadership and culture of the team (and injects a ton of money back into their cap space too).

I think the Jets need to be bold this summer. Sticking with current leaders is a two year window and while the team appears good enough to make the playoffs, they arent winning a cup. Bold moves now extends that window in my opinion.

They basically have 2 more years with the current cast. A load of contracts, both F and D, are up in 2 or 3 years. If they trade 55, they need to fill that hole pretty much now.

One thing that is worrying is Hellebuyck. With all the — going on, and him being a top notch goalie, does he stay or go contract time. He's signed for 3 more years. Trading Hellebuyck would be massive. And not in a good way. He'll be 31 at end of contract. Hoping his play keeps up. but he could get signed into one of those massive contracts and drag the team down in the future.

IMO Jets need to go hard now with some kind of mini re-jig this summer and hope for the best.

Funny to think that if the Oilers had Hellebuyck they'd probably be at least a couple of cups into a dynasty by now

Hellebucyck and Scheif can probably fetch 4 first round picks + some A prospects. Even if we keep our current core I just don’t think they have the talent to win a cup.

Re-sign Dubois, trade our veterans, and tank for Bedard.

Hellebuyck is damn near untouchable, and he has reportedly expressed his willingness to remain with the Jets so there is no issue with him.

Back up the money truck, and deposit the contents at the feet of Trotz.

Basically every team will be after Trotz. Hoping he wants to come back to MB. Just pay the man.

I would jump at Trotz, but Patrick and Lane Lambert would be good too.

Im guessing James Patrick wont be getting the job. He did an interview where he said some players (Hayes for example) told him the Jets locker room is the worst they'd ever been in and its Wheeler & Scheif causing problems.

Anyway, since Trotz is available, Jets would be nuts not to do everything possible to sign him as Head Coach. Rumours that vegas might can their HC and look at Trotz and that would make sense for Vegas to screw us. But lets hope not. If Vegas fires De Boer and hires Trotz, I could see the Jets hiring DeBoer.

It's been 48 hours and there has been no announcement by the Jets that Barry Trotz has been hired as head coach. What's going on?
