Canada goose is open, OVO is coming.

Something odd:
Parking Garage Red entrance beside Bento Sushi is under construction.

I’ve been trying to figure out what they are planning to do?

A Cake ATM is now selling cakes from Carlo's Bakery in the Rideau Centre. (Leah Larocque/CTV News Ottawa)

OTTAWA -- A Cake ATM is now open in the Rideau Centre, selling pieces of cake from the famous Carlo's Bakery in New Jersey.

The new Cake ATM at the downtown Ottawa mall is one of three Cake ATMs scheduled to open in Ottawa. There will also be machines at Bayshore Shopping Centre and St. Laurent Centre.

The machines sell cakes from Buddy Valestro's renowned Carlo's Bake Shop in Hoboken, which is featured on TLC's show Cake Boss.

Shoppers can purchase Carlo's Bakery's fresh, decadent slices in flavours like chocolate fudge, red velvet, carrot and vanilla rainbow. The cakes are baked at Carlo's Bakery and shipping to the Cake ATM locations, which will be restocked fresh daily.

Each slice of cake costs $9.99.

Cake ATMs are also located in the Greater Toronto Area.

I've been critical about that aspect before, but I can't get over it. Walking down Rideau yesterday evening, the Ogilvy façade looks great, but the floor bisecting the third storey windows ruins the effect. That should never have been approved.

^ Doesn't bother me to much, but I'm curious, what would you have preferred?

I'm assuming that reducing the ceiling heights would have been a really hard sell.

Should they have added another row of the brown paneling or brick between the windows and raised the 3rd floor windows up higher? That would have fixed it but maybe impossible from a heritage perspective.

My first choice would have been to preserve the old building, but that ship has sailed. My second choice would have been to match the original ceiling heights. They were lower then modern standards, but still pretty decent. There are still plenty of these old buildings with lower ceilings that serve their purpose. A couple feet won't make a huge difference.

The basement ceiling height, sure that was too low.

My third choice would have been to place black or charcoal panel hiding the modern floor plate as opposed to those white ones that make it even more obvious.

There's a sign outside Old Navy that the store will be closing for good on Rideau Centre.

With Urban Planet, Old Navy and Pink closed, that makes one big space that will be empty. I wonder what they will do with it?

With all the vacancies at that corner specifically, it's probably worth debating why the section (floor 2 and 3) around the Hudson Bay bridge gets little to none foot traffic.

Agreed on Uniqlo. Really big get if they can finally get a location at Rideau. Moose Knuckle is also a big one. Sad to see Old Navy go, but there's enough locations around the city anyways for that with one at Bayshore, Tanger, and Trainyards.

OMG... Have you even been to an Uniglo store? It's so formidably middle of the road. Perfect for Ottawa, or any other major Canadian city other than Montreal and Toronto.

Not sure what's so bad about Uniqlo. It's a great store and usually pretty busy at Eaton. Ottawa would be better with one, especially at Rideau.

Nothing wrong about it from my perspective! It's a perfectly pragmatic store for Ottawa tastes.

I dont get what is so middle of the road about Uniqlo. It has stylish clothes for a fair/decent price. Every time I travelled abroad in South Korea and Japan, the selection was good and it was always busy. This was in Seoul, Tokyo, and Osaka. All major cities, I don't think getting one is middle of the road. I found the Toronto store was great too. Getting one in Ottawa was like getting H&M for the first time. IMO, it's a good addition to our shopping because it's affordable for the average joe... and still pretty good since it isn't seen as a cheap hated brand that no one wants to go to.

Muji is excellent as well - I love their specialty foods and mini IKEA-esque style lol. They make surprisingly good instant meal curries.

Uniqlo is good and Ottawa getting one would make sense. Thankfully all their online orders arrive in like under 2 days, I believe from Mississauga.

This would be nice, though last I heard they were kind of scaling back NA stores. Still, if GTA and Vancouver area can sustain several, I think Ottawa could support one.
