Now can we please make the infrastructure on Colony/Portage to be more pedestrian friendly? It shouldn’t take more then 10 seconds to cross an intersection in an inner-city neighbourhood but that intersection the size of a Basketball court makes it take 25-30 seconds just to cross the street. Extending that bike lane on Memorial to Portage hopefully is a part of the redevelopment.
I believe part of the City's contribution is making improvements to the immediate area around it. Better pedestrian experience seems very likely.

Three layers of government are involved in funding it, plus HBC's contribution of the building. HBC got a specific mention for providing helpful criticism. All of those have political or public relations incentives for the project to be successful, and have reviewed the project. I'm confident in it.
you likely haven't seen the last of HBC in this project....they are a good partner and have big vision..

This gets overlooked. I agree. Using the good local talent who actually know whats needed.

I wonder if all the space for this planned renovation is accounted for? If not, would there be adequate space for indigenous national museum with some additional funding?

Frankly, it's pathetic that this country does not have a national museum dedicated to first nations history.

Agreed. I hope it is done properly CMHR style and not just tucked away on the 4th floor of The Bay or whatever.

The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington is 441,000 square feet. There is also at least one more national museum in New York as well.
There is no reason we can't have at least one 100- 150,000 square foot museum at minimum somewhere in Canada, preferably in Winnipeg.

Agreed, it should be prominent building and not tucked away in some 10,000 square foot space.

It has a new name but I doubt it will ever be called anything but the bay by the public.

Reminds me of the new WAG Inuit art centre addition. I commend the indigenous naming process as part of reconciliation, but anyone who does not speak that language can barely even pronounce the names. It’s just not practical. They should use two names - one that is indigenous and one as an English version or at least an acronym.

Agreed. I'll admit as an English speaker the names take a second to figure out, but they're not actually hard to pronounce. There aren't any difficult sounds or anything like that that the average person can't take five seconds to figure out.

Never took many marketing classes in uni, but I recall something to the effect of, "when developing a brand . . . stick to something less than 8 syllables. So no, this isn't a "race" issue (like everything these days), just really shitty marketing.

Most places aren't referred to by their full official title. If 8 syllables is too much for people to wrap their minds around I'm sure a nickname will emerge. Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn is just as linguistically complicated as Lagimodiere Boulevard or Riding Mountain National Park. Hell, we could just call it the WB building.
