All physicians work in the public system, but remuneration systems can vary quite a bit. Some physicians are salaried and have a pension. Others are paid a sessional fee and have no benefits. The majority privately contract their services to the government and are paid on a fee for service basis, but are responsible for paying their own overhead (office space, employees, supplies), and then live on whatever profit is left over (again without benefits).

I privately contract my services to my hospital, get paid on a fee for service basis, and have no benefits or pension. BTW, I am not retiring per se, I just have an agreement with my group to stop call at the end of the year. I will continue working on after that for another 2-3 years (until I am 68 or so) and then retire fully. I'm working those few extra years (at decreased compensation) to ensure I don't starve in my old age.

So if I understood correctly it was you who chose the form of remuneration. Isn't it cheaper to take a salary and then enjoy a future pension?

No, you don't really have freedom to choose.

Pathologists and public health physicians are usually salaried.

Hospitalists, ER physicians, some specialists in academic positions and some family doctors working in multidisciplinary clinics are paid sessionally.

Almost everyone else is fee for service.

At 4PM: Sarnia, ON hits 27.5C. New highest temperature this year.

Humidex of 32 there which is also the highest reading in 2022 so far.

Went on 2 walks today. Went up to the forest to get away from the chilly lake. It was 22 up there and 16 by the lake. Thought it would be a little chillier than that by the lake, actually.

yesterday was 13c up here in the bush west of lynn lake mb

then droped to -20 over night high of -8 today
the ice one the lake is 3feet thick still

Sunshine and 22C here today. One of the nicest days of the year so far. Rain tomorrow and 17C then temps falling by Wednesday to only 3C.

Nice to see some good heat! Always interesting to see the lake affects and the hard lines between hot and mild in Southern Ontario during these early hits of heat.

Also of note, while not as hot, the last two days have seen 20+ degree wether in many parts of the Southern Interior of BC (Nelson had their first 20 yesterday, that will have made my family happy). This is the first time this year both a region in the west and the east of country have hit above 20 on the same day, a real sign of spring finally getting going.

Cloudy, foggy, and a cold 2 degrees at just after 10am. Not much of a warmup expected today, with a northeasterly flow today and for much of the week.

There was still a bit of snow at my place this morning. Was curious to see where on my travels to work where the melt line would be. Looks like it's literally just the small valley where my street and the neighboring street are lol....I drove 30 seconds and there was no more snow anywhere.

Interesting University of Maryland site that tracks forest cover around the world. I believed that the largest forest cover in Canada was in the West, I am surprised because thanks to this site I discover that the greatest Canadian forest cover is in Southeast Canada, in particular Southern Quebec, New Brunswick (MonctonRad your province seems the greenest in all of Canada!!!!) and Nova Scotia. Southern Ontario is also very green. West-central Canada probably has fewer forests because there are much higher mountains.
