My vision - arena east side of Broad with 5-8 storey mixed use buildings on the west side and that Rose St proposal from way back when on that block of Rose which would be a perfect building for a movie theatre and restaurant with rooftop patio.

Personally, I think it makes more sense to have it be build in REAL, but it does make me wonder what will happen to the Queen City Ex now that there's demand for development in the area.

Crews were out on Dewdney a few weeks ago doing surveying and some underground work (I don't know the technical term, but looked like "underground surveying/scanning").

Hopefully we don't end up with some cheap lego apartments as the solution for the area (though that of course would still be better than empty land). But I hope they actually enforce proper design guidelines and plan this thing properly.

As far as the new hockey arena goes at 10,000 seats it doesn’t even pay to build it if it’s gonna last for like 40 years , It should be at least 16,000 seats with the extra 6000 seats to be added at later on

Coopertown bylaw tabled in Regina city council meeting

Concerns from the public were heard in yesterday's meeting
The future neighbourhood spans more than 809 hectares of land and is nestled between Courtney Street and the Regina Bypass. Phase one of the project, if approved, is set to create homes for 978 people, with Coopertown aiming to have the capacity for 36,000 residents once complete.

This is massive

Am I right in thinking that in a few years time, the only new subdivision development will be Westerra & Coopertown?

The Towns, Eastbrook, West Harbour Landing... probably others like the one north of Uplands.

For now. You can actually buy lots there, as it was apparently subdivided. No services though. It is also called Devonia Park.

Reading between the lines on that one I think was because the city extends utilities down from the north tying in water and sewer as they go. The developers wanted to start on the south end, but there wasn't enough trunk capacity designed into the existing Harbour Landing to start adding more neighborhoods.

My “few years time” quip was assuming east end development will largely be done by then. Harbour Landing is essentially done, so any new development today/next few years is going to be in the east end (Westerra doesn’t get a lot of the action cause it’s weird).

There is also the land next to prince of whales between dewdney and the tracks. There have been consultations with eastend neighbour hoods. Still a long time away but they will build there eventually.

I wonder if Arens Road in the Towns will get connected to Woodland Grove this year. Last year the developer prepped all the land south of Arens (also all the land east of the storm channel). I think the developer would handle construction so it wouldn't go to tender.

The site plan has everything south of Arens, Woodland Grove to Anaquod laid out.

I've got everything already mapped on OpenStreetMap (scale drawings FTW). Just need to change tagging from highway=proposed to appropriate class when done (and construction when ground is broken).

In other exciting GIS news, expect updated City of Regina aerial photography this year. Flights should occur in the next few weeks, then maybe a few months before they go live.
