^^Agreed. One of two things should happen with 1701 Market. Converted to Life Sciences space or demolished and replaced with something taller.

I guess I could see it going residential and getting re-clad, but a better use of the space would be complete demolition and a new build with office/life science space on the first ~15 floors, and then ~25 floor of residential on top.

I'm also going to move this conversation to the highrise thread, as 1701 Market is greater than 12 floors and we need some more life in the highrise thread again. It's gone rather quiet of late.

I agree, and I'd also like to add 1760 Market to the demo list. It would be nice to add some additional vibrancy to Market Street. I feel like Market had taken steps to shed its 9-to-5 image before the pandemic, but now it's more necessary than ever.

^^Same! speaking of the Rail Park.... anyone have any info on the rest of it? I know the Reading Railroad owns it. Are we to the point where the city can invoke eminent domain to take control from the clearly negligent owners? Finishing off the rest of the viaduct would be a HUGE asset for not only the neighborhoods it runs through, but for the entire city.

We really need major funding for the rail park literally one of the best assets in the city as far as green space and people moving.

isn't the rail park a copy of the same thing in NYC?

I'm not gonna lie whoever completed this first Phase of the rail park did very well it was my first time there after passing it a million times.

^this is probably my favorite skyscraper in the world and PoMo is probably my least favorite architectural style in the world. it still looks cool today, which is something that very few things from the late-80s can say.

also, the consistency of the texture for those hand-drawn (?) renderings is so good.

They’re in Japanese. I wonder what the connection is there? The firm responsible for the building was Jahn.

It's an extra edition of a Helmut Jahn book published in 1986. I have the standard version of this book, and the extra edition does have more, but I got it specifically for that elevation since other books don't include it

1735 Market Street is currently renovating its lobby and Market Street entrance. I recall a while back (4-5 years maybe?) there was talk of converting the terrace on top of its retail podium to a roof deck, either as an amenity space for tenants, or open to the public. Does anyone know whether this is still in play with work now underway?
