This one exemplifies Ottawa. Perhaps the boxiest, blandest, 1990s retro tower in the nation. This may have been designed as straight up PoMo too.

And that's actually not bad by Ottawa standards!

Indeed, with its heritage references, I would have said that's above the Centretown average.

This to me is more typical of Ottawa CBD contemporary architecture:

Ottawa's "Blue Glass" district. Three blocks, seven towers, all roughly the same height and general shape, clad with reflective blue glass.

Constitution Square and Minto Place are pretty great office complexes. Great amenities and food options. Grand lobbies. Roof top terraces. Just too much of the same from outside.

Centennial is another matter. Built in the mid-60s, it was re-clad at some point to go with the nearby reflective curtain wall trends (?)

I chose retro commercialism from the 1990s as it's arguably the most decorative of the post war era and how it stands against other examples across Canada. Of course, late modernist glass curtain wall won't be as decorative across Canada or Ottawa

Literally made me LOL, though note that the Centre Slush Puppie was not built for Slush Puppie Canada Inc. as a corporate headquarters. It's just a naming deal. The arena is in fact a city-owned building.

Though I am proud to present to you, people of SSP, à la demande générale, Slush Puppie Inc. world headquarters in Gatineau:

Sorry to pick on Centre Slush Puppie. I drove through Gatineau back in December (en route to Mt. Tremblant for a ski trip with the family) and somehow, I drove past the namesake arena. I recall enjoying Slush Puppies (why not Centre Slush Puppy) as a kid, but I was very amused to see an Arena with that label.
That world headquarters is very imposing.

No worries at all. I happen to think the name is hilarious.

Gatineau has always had a bit of a shameless tacky side, so in a sense it's a perfect fit.

Snack bars sold Slush Puppies at premium prices. I had to settle for Slurpies at the 7/11.

It's no worse than New Orleans' Smoothie King Centre!

New Orleans is also incredibly tacky (and incredibly fascinating). And (sort of) French...

Though I'd stop short of calling Gatineau "incredibly fascinating".

Is there anyone here who's got the time to list the Gatineau u/c and proposals. I have the impression the the SSp diagram doesn't tell me the whole story.

And what ever happened to those two tacky 50+ floor buildings that were proposed a while ago?

Those are cancelled but the same developer, Brigil, has hinted that a building of 'up to 60 stories' will be proposed soon on the next lot over. I did a quick estimation of what that would look like below.

This is phase one of We 2. They are building one of the lower towers first. The taller towers were proposed at 33 floors but we are receiving mixed messages on that.

Le Colombia near the Casino is nearly finished

Le Viu 2 just wrapped up

In the foreground you have 401 Champlain at 12 floors u/c, in the back right you have 225 Laurier at 15 floors u/c and next to it is a proposal for 14 floors.

Aside from that there will be several towers built at Zibi in the near future and we are expecting a lot more proposals across downtown Gatineau as the market heats up.
