it is a little better then it's ugly twin across the street -doesn't justify that scraper, but adds some context.

Do you mean 160 Chapel - the rental building constructed in 1970? Really?

I find the ol' Horizon Towers far less offensively ugly than whatever the hell this new building is supposed to be

Edit: still can't believe how hard this thing got RLA'd

From lots of glass, huge balconies, modern tower to white/grey brick, random crosses, very little balconies..

One, if not the worst, newly built towers in Ottawa. Those white crosses add nothing but visual mess - I'd much rather they would've opted out and just done that whole side grey.

At times, I find it hard not to not let it bother me too much. It's an insult to the city we love.

Mods, we can now change the thread title to 'Story of Rideau & Chapel'. I'm not kidding It's the story of Bait & Switch and value engineering??

Those white crosses are the weirdest flourish ever.

This is an example of what all RLA grey brick buildings are going to turn out as.

I'm really disappointed with this building. Bait-and-switch should not be allowed to go through and we need better design standards to hold developers and architects to account to ensure we get good buildings. This one is just awful.

Agreed. This is horrendous. I don't live far away. It ruins my mood at least once a day.

From the first angles, the ground level actually looks okay. It's everything above that is horrible.

A very unenthusiastic "ok".

What's with all the black and charcoal bricks? Are those cheaper than red or something? Hydro bills will be through the roof on hot summer days.

Hear are the other two 'Story of....' buildings currently under development in Brampton and Midtown Toronto. Quick and easy proof that Ottawa gets the value engineering every time. We don't demand any better outside of this forum.

One of these things is not like the others

Why does this happen all the time here? Who/what would be the one to make sure buildings are built as proposed? And why do they clearly not care at all?

Yeah it's funny that it ended up even uglier than the ugly final rendering 😂

Everytime I see the post now as Story of Rideau and Chapel, makes me chuckle.

But holy crap... that bait and switch is so vile. It's actually disturbing how bad that is.
