It's not just new buildings going up. Terrasses de la Chaudière (huge red-brown brick Federal Complex) will soon be reclad. Part of Place du Portage over Maisonneuve (huge concrete Federal Complex) will be renewed.

The sheer number of highrise buildings in Ottawa-Gatineau is astonishing. It's second only to Toronto (edit: and Vancouver) in Canada in how many discreet clusters there are and many more are on the way. Currently we have clusters of highrises in Downtown/CBD, Hull/Zibi, Little Italy, Parkdale/Tunneys Pasture, Westboro, Ambleside, Riverside/Frobisher, St.Laurent/Brittany, The Byward Market/Lowertown, Vanier, Prince of Wales/Hogs Back, Lees Avenue, Billings Bridge, Hurdman and more. The problem is that so many of the buildings are boxy and of similar height, typically 20-28 stories for the tallest ones.

New clusters are rapidly developing at Lebreton/Bayview, Bayshore, Kanata Centrum, Trim Rd/Petrie, Gloucester, St.Laurent/Ogilvie, Westgate, Barrhaven, Centrepointe, Trainyards and more.

Almost every place I have mentioned has proposals/approvals/construction of new buildings over 30 stories tall up to 65 stories tall. Ottawa is about to lose it's boxy clump of a skyline and become more like A mini GTA with many separate clusters anchored by much taller buildings than currently exist. Give it five years and it will finally be impressive, give it ten and it will be one of Canada's most impressive skylines.

Some low-res skyline shots from Le Droit:

LeBreton with Dow's Lake in the background. The lot next to Pimisi Station, centre left, will be redeveloped by Dream with 30 and 35 floor towers, with a mix of market and affordable housing. Centre-left roughly, above the O-Train Line will be the potential arena. The bottom of the barren field will go up for interests in June and have to include four mixed-use towers.

The image is a bit outdated. The crane next to Icon is now the topped-out SoHo Italia, and two more cranes are up across the Trillium Line (right, where the tall yellow towers are) for a 20 and a 14 floor tower.

From Hull, looking towards Ottawa. The centre site of the image is one of the preferred sites for a new regional hospital (by reasonable people, not the CAQa Party).

I love downtown Ottawa.. I love the vibe when you're physically walking around the city, but the skyline pics posted are seriously depressing. The CBD needs a break in that tabletop.. it's transformative... look what it has done for Edmonton. Also.. why Ontario always have to be so GREY????

I wouldn't hold out for a break in the CBD tabletop any time soon, although a new tallest at Albert & Lyon is on it's way, it will only be four meters taller than the current tallest. The incredible impending transformation of Ottawa's skyline is happening elsewhere.

the skies of Ontario in the winter/spring months are so grey and dreary...seemingly all the time. cobalt grey buildings, cobalt grey skies. big box barf. Miltonization.

I think you need to look up what cobalt is. Neither of the last two photo sets look grey.

I’m sure Ottawa is a great place, but for some reason it’s presence in this thread is overwhelming and I’m not quite sure why as it’s skyline is…very underwhelming. I wouldn’t have such high expectations if it weren’t the 4th largest CMA and the countries capital.

It's probably because Ottawa has one of the most active communities on Skyscraperpage.

Edit: I'm a little confused why posts about any one city in this thread could be 'overwhelming'. I am a Calgarian living in Gatineau and I love every single image I see posted in this thread. I'd gawk over 300 pictures a day from Victoria to St. Johns on here if that many were posted. Maybe you have a really bad data plan or dial-up internet?

I love looking at the Ottawa pics posted here, thanks J.OT13. Similar to 905er, I like the downtown, the rest, especially at this time of year is grey, beige and stark, but still fascinating. It’s almost like Ottawa has way too much land and doesn’t know what to do with it all. Too many strouds, big box shopping areas, random large towers plunked awkwardly in the middle of neighbourhoods which themselves feel cut off by roads, strouds and highways. Still, it’s an exciting city to watch right now to see how it evolves.

Cool shot with some Byward Market construction in the foreground looking towards Parliament in Ottawa this morning, courtesy of u/poopitydoopityboop on Reddit.

Capital of what? Washington or Berlin skylines don't punctuate the sky like New York or Frankfurt either.
