You’d think that with all the support they get from here they’d at least put our name on the terminal building (in half size font of course).

Hey everyone, first time poster. huge fan of YOW and airlines that have made YOW a base. I have a big distaste for airlines like AC and WS who just want to use us as a feeder city. That being said, the biggest issue YOW has is the Montreal airport. YOW has said multiple times that starting in Ottawa and connecting in Montreal for example is better (when trying to make suggestions for direct flights) than driving there because it doesn't show up as an Ottawa starting passenger. That brings our numbers down and when YOW tries to present data to these airlines they just shrug at it, because why add direct flights when so many people are OK with just driving to Montreal. That being said, does anyone know of a source to look up YOW O&D numbers for domestic and international destinations?

Good point. I would drive but I hate driving anywhere in the Winter (when I do most of my travelling) and I don't like coming home tired from a long trip to a 1.5-2 hour drive back to Ottawa. I guess I will just keep connecting through Tor and Mtl for the rest of my life

I travel Internationally extensively and regularly and I start 9 out of 10 trips in MTL. I'm so used to the drive, discount parking at an airport motel, and the shuttle bus (pre-covid, uber lately) that it's just part of travelling at this point. The odd time it works out leaving from Ottawa is magical though.

Probably due to crew shortages.

Or possibly late arrivals the prior evening auto-delaying due to minimum crew rest.

Today's departure count: 47 + 1 cancellation

Manitobans stranded in Ottawa for a week after Flair Airlines cancels flight

CBC News
Posted: Apr 04, 2022 3:17 PM ET | Last Updated: 3 hours ago

Fabrice Papuli, his wife and their three children were supposed to fly home to Winnipeg on Sunday after vacationing in Ottawa.

Now, they say they're stranded for a week after Flair Airlines cancelled their return flight to Winnipeg at the last minute and presented them with a choice: either accept a refund for half of what they paid for their tickets, or wait seven days until the next available flight.

Flair notified passengers about the flight cancellation by email at 1 a.m. Sunday, the day the flight was supposed to take off from Ottawa. It said there weren't enough crew members to staff the flight and passengers had been automatically re-booked on the airline's next flight to Winnipeg — but that's not until this upcoming Sunday.

Papuli arrived at the Ottawa airport at 10 a.m. to try to work something out, and told Radio-Canada after speaking with several people at Flair, he was given the choice to accept the partial reimbursement of $750 for his family of five or stay in Ottawa until the next flight to Winnipeg with their food and accommodations paid for.

About 20 Manitobans are in the same boat, Papuli said.

Papuli said he asked every car rental agency about driving his family back to Winnipeg, but they all told him they didn't have enough vehicles in their fleets to accommodate them.

The only option the family has left is to buy new tickets to Winnipeg with another airline, but Papuli said it would cost too much. Another passenger on their flight paid $700 for one such ticket.

"My family, we are five. We checked. It would cost $4,000 to $5,000 to get us back to Winnipeg," he said.

The couple aren't equipped to do their work remotely from Ottawa, and are therefore facing the loss of some pay, he added.

"My wife was crying yesterday ... we spent almost 10 hours with kids in the airport, waiting for someone to give us answers, and it was impossible to [get them]," Papuli said.

"We are all stressed. We need to have a solution. I have to work, I have an exam to pass, I have things to do, and it's the same for my wife."

The owner of the Inspirations Voyage travel agency in Gatineau, Que., Marie-Pier Guilmette, said she wasn't surprised by the situation, and her company prefers not to do business with Flair.

Jacob Charbonneau, who co-founded two websites that seek compensation for stranded airline passengers in Canada, told Radio-Canada they've been hearing more about Flair cancellations lately.

Flair Airlines confirmed Monday the flight was cancelled due to a shortage of crew members, and said it was trying to help all passengers reach their destination as soon as possible.

This starts next week. Both on Max8’s

AC346 08:15- 15:48 YVR-YOW
AC342 08:40- 16:13 YVR-YOW
AC345 16:50- 19:05 YOW-YVR
AC343 17:34- 19:50 YOW-YVR

Usually they spread them out a bit…

I noticed that this operated yesterday as well. I think it's just a Monday thing.

Yesterday, you could book AC345 for $200 one-way, but AC343 was $700+ and fairly full on the seat chart.

I believe in May this route goes 2x day with a morning and evening departure, and then in June, 3x with two evening departures to YVR. (2x Max8's and 1x A321)

The Flair story is crazy, how do you expect to build a business & customer base with these types of practices? They should've scheduled a new flight the very next day.

I fail to understand how that would not have been cheaper than "providing meals and accommodations for 20 people for a week in Ottawa"

Or re-booking tickets on Westjet or AirCanada

I am not at all surprised. I was victim to an F8 cancellation to YXX last summer, and was given the same "refund or next flight" options. Fortunately Flair had an earlier flight to YVR, though it meant taking an extra vacation day to catch it. At first I had to pay the difference in fare, but eventually they payed the difference. They wouldn't pay for the taxi between YVR and YXX though (something that WS has done for me in the past).

F8 is fine for those who have a flexible travel schedule, but you need to understand what the consequences of a cancelled flight are and be willing to adjust your schedule accordingly (in this case, flying a week later).

Through comments on Porter's Instagram page, they have indicated that their E195-E2 seating configuration will be similar to their Dash 8-400s, with two seats on each side of the cabin, all within the same class.

They indicated, again, that routes will be announced in the coming months. Apparently the E195-E2 is due to visit them again in a few weeks.

Today's departure count: 42

I have noticed twice in the past few days that 5T are operating the old multi-stop YOW-YFB-YRT-YZF on some days with two departures. It's showing up as 5T 119 on days 137. On the return 5T 118 ops days 25 only, with day 7 being a connection at YFB, meaning on day 7, they must operate a freighter flight back to Ottawa.
