Seems like the Sahotas dumped the Cobalt Hotel. Boxcar is getting evicted in 30 days. City of Vancouver/BC Housing purchase?

Seems unlikely. Whoever the new owners are they're also apparently terminating the lease on Pizza Farina. City and BC Housing projects generally welcome commercial tenants on the main floor, like the bar at the American, or the design company in the office across the street from the Cobalt.

I think that whole building has to go though. It's in pretty terrible shape.

That could be the explanation. If there's a deal to purchase it and replace or refurbish it (rather than condemn it and then fight like with the Balmoral and the Regent), but empty it in the meantime, that might make sense. I guess we'll know at some point.

Would they want to have to replace the 92 SRO units? If it's demolished the units still have to be replaced, unless the City agrees to allow them to be closed and a chunk of change go to the non-market housing fund, which seems unlikely. It's not a heritage building, so that's not a factor (unless they want to leverage some bonus space to save the facade, maybe).

Last I heard they were trying to get the whole block and Colbalt was the big stick in the mud and they wanted to do a Bloody Alley style dev. This was, mind you, years ago.

I think this is a suburban purchaser with no track record in Vancouver, and some involvement in the hotel business. Why they'd want a 92 unit SRO, I can't imagine, but I think they've picked up the Source/hostel to the south as well.

this is great news! >> https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/local...lion-renewal-of-pne-amphitheatre-3886167

The report asks city staff to expedite the project with the goal of completing the venue earlier than the projected date of 2026.

I wonder when the new completion date is ... maybe 2024 if we are lucky?

2026. Construction doesn't start until Q3 2024. They still have a lot of design work left.

Here's the RFP

Cool. Haven't seen these renderings yet. I'll add them to the thread here.

Some random comment on Reddit said CoV paid $12 million over asking for Cobalt.

I think that's a sarcastic comment. Reddit is wrong about the purchaser.

Any word on how the new Lululemon head offices are coming along? Weren't they building a 13 storey office building on Great Northern Way?
