Fencing has gone up around the James Street parking lot. Looks like things will kick off pretty soon. They did say Spring 2022 for construction.

According to Steve's Instagram hoarding is going up soon.

Oooh purple brick front? That's a first.. or is the brick more the colour of the Olympia Club..?

I kinda wish the stone pieces had been longer and seamless and the seams hidden behind the columns..

but at least they are using real brick! How sad that THAT is something to applaud these days..

Just looks like a dark red brick to me. As for the stones I think it looks fine. It was pretty typical for all of history to have seamed stones like that because shipping larger stones becomes exponentially more difficult.

Pretty sure those stones are precast concrete blocks. Also, the bricks they are using are the exact same ones they've used on their other Hamilton builds. Must just use the same supplier.

Ah ok, so more of a brown colour - the bricks they used on the olympia club were actually quite nice so no objections there.

It seems like CoreUrban has their shit together and they seem to well liked by the city as they always get approvals quickly. None of this torn up but empty for months on end. Parking lot is ripped up and digging and shoring is complete basically in the same week.

Yeah it's pretty incredible. I fully expect them to start pouring the foundation within the next two weeks.

14 Augusta only had temporary mobile cranes likely because there was lots of room on site for that. Phase 2 and 3 will be occupying that space, so I think there probably will be a crane here. I guess we'll find out really soon.

I'm really excited for the number of residents that are going to be moving in here to support the bars on Augusta and James South.

It's just 7 storeys, and surrounded on two side by taller buildings so it will be a mobile crane.

core urban could rebuild the entire city for all I care - literally no cons with them.

Con: they don't have money to buy every parking lot in the city...

Pro - gofundme exists

I am sure many of us would gladly help them out. Esp. with the old Zellers plot on James and the plot beside the Pigott building. Those beg to have something classy built to reflect the buildings beside or across from them.

I do have one beef with core urban and this is just more of a personal stylistic beef - I feel with their neo-victorian styling that they play it a bit too.. safe with their new designs - like it's mostly just geometric shapes - I would like to see say more elaborate cornices - like the royal connaught - more curves and accents and details - but that's just me. Like with the white building above - it's nice don't get me wrong - but they played it safe. The bannistered railing is really the most detailed part of it at the top. I do like that element - bannistered top accents are always pretty

Back in the day each architect had a creative statement to make with their design - I'd like to see us go back to that - where each building is unique in its own way and not cookie cutter. Not that this is cookie cutter, but I feel they could still go one step higher imo esp. with the jutout semicircular awnings above the windows at top - they're kinda plain.

Bless CoreUrban for understanding processes, logistics, and operating with efficiency and skill.

I concur, we need to start some sort of fundraising mechanism so that lesser lights don't water down the cityscape while CoreUrban does heavy lifting to respect the historical elements and compliment with modern updates.
