Yes, we need faster approvals and development. That's mostly a residential issue though. Commercial/Office development doesn't seem to get held up nearly as long.
Wrong on both fronts. Vancouver is well over that number now. That would be appropriate for 2015 maybe, but not now. Amd also keep in mind how the US counts metro areas is often different than how we do it so in actuality we’re even closer once You add that to the equation and nowhere near “double”

Classic talking point sure, but means the world to People actually trying to operate a business in the city. Their “reality” is endless hoops to jump through and “gatekeepers” to conduct business here.

And yes they do. We’re glacier slow in the approval process in all areas. Once again a byproduct of stupid civic policy. Period

Should also point out that King County is nearly twice the size of Metro Vancouver alone, and 2.2M vs 2.6M.
Thank you for pointing that out and taking the time to fully explain it through numerical values. Very informative and provides context. Forumers should use that information to provide more realistic comparisons. Thanks again

I figured I would post this. Can you imagine the nutjob loonies on council seeing this photo? they would vote to have Hycroft Towers torn down just out of spite that someone would at one time propose something so logical as this.

now with just 1 gas station left downtown we need you know ... SMART solutions like this. Think Nutjob Carr or Hardwick would go along with this? so pathetic and so sad.

And today would be illegal under the BC Building Code, which says that "Fixed dispensers for Class I liquids shall be installed outside buildings" (unless the building is not open to the public).

The City of Vancouver looked at the possibility of gas stations being incorporated into buildings when it was obvious that the land values would see them disappear over time. The provincial regulations don't permit it, so even Councillors that Hollywoodnorth doesn't think are 'nutjobs' will never have a chance to support the idea.

I'm sure nothing could ever possibly go wrong in having a 12,000-20,000 litre oil tank buried underneath every single apartment in Vancouver...

The leaky condo crisis might have had a very different meaning.. And there might not have been buildings left to rebuild

Very interesting. I've seen photos of gas stations integrated with buildings in Japan and Germany. It can be done.

Did you know that all new buildings in Van need to have EV chargers roughed in.

I don’t see any branding on that gas station. Was it just for Hycroft residents? How could that ever be profitable?!

Kishone Roy ✍ @KishoneRoy · Mar 26

Hello friends,

Last night I agreed to let my name stand as a potential candidate for Vancouver City Council with Vision Vancouver.

Like many, I’ve been isolated and freelancing for a long time. I want to join a team again, and to help in some way.

This seems like a good fit.

shame on Carr. she should know its time to step aside. this woman has no soul. if it was up to here we would all be living in our cars by now huddled for warmth. she is mentally deranged and a masochist.

It was a full service station that extended into the parkade.

Vancouver councillors Sarah Kirby-Yung, Rebecca Bligh and Lisa Dominato have announced they will join Ken Sim's A Better City Vancouver Party.

The three of them ran with Sim in the 2018 under the NPA banner and were elected, but have since left the party.

So is it fair to say that all the major parties are in favour of the current Vancouver Plan?

Well it should certainly help their chances. I think its a bit unfair Sarah Kirby-Yung didn’t get the chance to run for mayor after putting in the time as a councillor and parks board rep. She’s also one of the more responsive councillors, along with Pete Fry.

It’s pretty sad the Greens keep punting in fielding a mayoral candidate along with COPE this time. Clearly trying to tilt the playing field to Stewart.

Or just not wanting to lose while letting a not-really-very-green-at-all have a chance of winning by splitting the 'progressive' vote.

Stewart has the backing of BC NDP. The NDPs directed a super early labour council endorsement of Stewart explicitly to signal to other progressive parties to not run candidates.

Carr will never be mayor, if she had the support she would have made the move years ago. She's an obstructionist councillor at best with no vision nor leadership. I think major political bodies saw the same.
