Shocking news out of Brampton, Ontario.

Supporters of the ethnoreligious supremacist movement of Khalistan, a country for the Sikhs, violently attacked a Punjabi-language Indo-Canadian radio personality for criticizing Khalistan.

Video of attack:

Brampton is quickly becoming a no go zone.

When you see things like this in Anglo-Canada, it really makes you think that Quebec is on the right path. I hope Quebec continues to hold on to its values and expectations.

An anything goes approach leads to the creation of deeply undesirable places like Brampton.

If this in reference to Americans, how about we start by getting most Canadians to pronounce it correctly or at least the same way?

In English, I hear Canadians say it about 3-4 different ways.

True, but there is only 1 way. I find the further west, the worst they pronounce it.

At least their guy who said new-kyuh-lur has now retired. Can't remember his name.

Qwee-bek has always seemed like more of an Ontario Don Cherry / Doug Ford pronunciation to me. Basically the same group that says Orientals. In Alberta I mostly hear Ka-bek.

Which would be correct (in English).

One also hears kwuk-bek and even kew-bek sometimes.

That will never happen due to regional accents. It would be akin to Bostoners expecting the rest of America to pronounce it Baahston.

The official CBC pronunciation these days seems to be "Kyuh-bec", which is a bit different from the "Kwuh-bec" that I've always used.

This is MIGs level stupid. There is no place even approaching a no go zone in Brampton.

saffron's got an axe to grind with Brampton. Zero idea why (well...) other than personal perception.

Toronto is said at least 10 different ways. Quebecois stress different syllables when saying 'Toronto' e.g., the 'ron' part is light and quick, whereas it is long and loud in English. Different syllables are also stressed when saying "Vancouver" (Va'an-couvert, vs. VanCOOOver)

TOR-ron-TOH
Taranna
Terranna
Tronto
Torawwnto
Terrawwnto
...

The surest way to recognize a non native Calgarian is if they call it Cal-Gay-ree. It’s pronounced Cal-gree.

You must declare that 'there are a number of things to do' immediately before or after saying Okotoks.

True. But at least in French in Quebec, everyone says Toronto or Vancouver the exact same way.

How would a Quebecois de souche say "Okotoks"?

OEU...QUEU...TOQUES?
