Perhaps there are no pedestrians, because these are awful intersections for pedestrians.

Is this really going to put out the car crowd?

And who is anti-car here? Sounds like a strawman. Probably all of us have vehicles. I certainly do.

pro-pedestrian is not analogous to anti-car. seems like a false dichotomy to me.

Base asphalt coat is now installed on Dundas east of Adelaide. Likely wait to put the top coat on until the spring and complete it thru to Egerton.

No one is going to walk south of Bradley & Adelaide, the whole are is light industry and has no appeal regadless if there were traffic islands or not. Anti car crowd are the same people claiming there's a "climate emergency" in London and using that as the basis to stop necessary road improvements. London isn't a piss in the pool when it comes to climate change impacts. Bike lanes and transit will only do so much.

The north side of that intersection is all residential. People walk to work, other people walk from bus stops to work. That intersection is also not far from a lot of retail and restaurants so people can walk there as well.

And we shouldn't wear seatbelts because either way it wouldn't impact international statistics?

I never have understood this position. Everybody and every place has to do their part.

Climate change is a matter for senior government. London council declaring a climate emergency is for the busy bodies of council to feel like they're important. If we're gonna go down everyone doing this part, better for them to lobby China & India to do more to step up their climate change lack of efforts..

For Adelaide north of Bradley council has already made the area more active transit friendly. A lane in both directions of Adelaide has been removed and converted to a massive bike lane. Bikes lane do have a benefit and use to support active transit but needs to be a complete transportation network than includes road expansions.

I am inclined to agree- but that shouldn't stop us from considering impacts at a local level.

Adelaide doesn't really need 4 lanes on the cut off stretch south of Southdale, you can cannibalize one lane. It made sense if Adelaide was going to be connected between Commissioners and Southdale but that never happened. The road is a overbuilt stub.

One area where I still support pork chop stuff is in industrial areas since it's easier to have large trucks turn vs a sharp right. However so long as the intersection is large enough that there is sufficient turning radius, I guess they can go?

Bradley widening from Pond Mills / Highbury interchange is needed towards Wellington. Even more traffic may be using this stretch once the connection between Wharncliffe and White Oak roads is done.

Unless there is a big amount of space, as the old Southdale WB to NB Wharncliffe turn was, I'd just as soon there was no pork chop island when I'm turning a corner. The island just serves as an obstacle, forcing me to go to the left even more than otherwise necessary to make the right and not run the trailer up on the sidewalk, whereas otherwise I can go forward more before starting the turn. The right from Adelaide SB to Oxford WB was brutal with the island, although it still 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 now too lol.

The expressway portion of Highbury Avenue (from the Thames River Bridge to Highway 401) is scheduled to have a complete rebuild, starting in 2023.

It has not been decided if the road will be constructed with concrete or asphalt.

I don't imagine the timing of the new 401 overpass will coincide with this lol.

I've been fortunate that I can usually avoid the Hamilton-Commissioners stretch for the most part, but I go south of Commissioners quite a bit, so that is going to 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

It would be nice if the City of London, City of St Thomas, Elgin County and the Province would get together to start the work to widen, straighten and remove the dips in Highbury between the two cities. The road is a death trap by design and will continue to claim lives until it is rebuilt. Traffic volumes already warrant making it 4 lanes and will only continue to increase. Building 2 lanes divided to the east or west of current road would create a 4 lane divided highway. Provide enough space for unobscured left turn lanes or Michigan U-turns. Engineers know how to build roads safer by design. Let's give them the chance to do it with Highbury.

That would require London and the province to actually coordinate things. And I bet once the new 401 overpass is built, that's when London will finally get around to rebuilding Hamilton/Highbury intersection...

And they still need to determine if it will be rebuilt in concrete or asphalt. How did they determine the $20M budget not knowing which building material they would use?

The city recently released their new map of construction projects for this year, and it will be one the largest construction seasons yet, according to their new report to Civic Works Committee.

The following are their annual 'Top 10' construction projects for this year:
  1. Adelaide Street North Underpass
  2. Downtown Loop Phase 2 (rapid transit)
  3. East London Link Phase 1 (rapid transit)
  4. Southdale Road West (widening + sidewalks/bike paths)
  5. Victoria Bridge Replacement (Ridout St bridge over the Thames)
  6. Mud Creek Phase 2
  7. Kilworth Bridge Rehabilitation (this bridge is located at the western city limits on Oxford St W)
  8. Queens Avenue Reconstruction (resurfacing + bike lane separation)
  9. Pottersburg Phase 1 Reconstruction
  10. Brydges Street (reconstruction + new bike lanes)

In addition, new traffic lights will be installed at the following intersections:
  • Edgevalley Road and Highbury Avenue
  • Sunningdale Road and North Wenige / South Wenige Drive
  • Gainsborough Road and Coronation Drive (west leg)
  • North Routledge Park and Hyde Park Road
  • Huron Street and Vesta Road (upgrade from pedestrian signal)
  • plus more than 10 other intersections with an older signal system, will be reconstructed with new signals

The above are just a few of the many road projects the city is doing this year. You can check out this map which will show all of the projects this year: https://london.ca/sites/default/files/20...rojects2022_100x115-GROUP-ALL-WARD_0.pdf
