I've said for years that if you're going to post more than three or four images dealing with construction that it might be best to put them in the spoiler tag.

Frequently, people will post all these photos, and then someone will quote the same post and the photos will be posted multiple times again. It's needless.

I have been guilty of replying to someone's photo's and the photo's appear again in my response. So for someone like me, how do you reply to someone else's message without showing the photo's again?

For the love of all that is Holy. I’d rather look past pics than read some of the essays that are posted then replied to over and over again but I just scroll past it because it’s not that big of a deal

For those wondering about Astra delay, it's 1-2 weeks while removing downed rig and waiting for new one. Piles about 85% done. Excavation and cutting continues in meantime. GC working to make up time where possible.

Knew it wouldn't take long. They removed the tall drill, the base of the machine is still on site, there were trucks with workers around it today. I wonder if they are procuring a whole new machine, or just the drill component. These machines are pretty easy to get a hold of in situations like this.

I support the photos, just don't quote massive chains of photos.

I still can’t post a photo properly after all this time and now I’m scared to ask! Probably a good thing though because I would probably be a spammer. But hey, thankfully we have projects to take pictures of. There are projects everywhere!

Orlando, how’s the PEG project moving along? Still solid? I can’t put my finger on it but I like how the design isn’t a carbon copy of all the rest. I’m also holding out hope that phase 2 of the West Quarter maintains its earlier vision and design. It will be a much needed addition to the skyline.

Tutorial for posting pictures:

1. Go to www.imgur.com
2. Click "New Post"
3. Upload your photos
4. Right click on the image(s) and copy the individual image link(s)
5. Start your SSP post in another tab
6. Click the little yellow "Insert Image" button and paste in your image link(s). This basically just wraps [IMG] tags around the link, which is how the website code knows to show an image.
7. If the image is very large, insert an "h" before the file extension (.jpg for example). This links to a resized version of your photo that imgur automatically generates.
8. Click "Preview Post" to review or "Submit Reply" to post

It's cumbersome and old-fashioned at this point but it works.

Despite the TV reporter's claim that he 'dug into the story,' the Rio Grande Plan is not mentioned. Instead, the story focuses on the fact that the state offices, archives, and artifacts being housed in the depot will soon be moved to a different building, freeing the Rio Grande depot up for a new use.

I've got a few ideas about what that use could be, but the state is going to do things in its own official way. Representative Handy from Layton secured some amount of funding to do a study on the best use of the depot - how much money, or when that study will take place I don't know, but if there is a time for public comment/feedback, I think we all know what to do!

I should note that I have spoken to two of the individuals who were interviewed about the Rio Grande plan, and they seemed impressed. I also sent Rep. Handy a printed version of the Rio Grande Plan back in October, so he should know all about it. I have no idea what politics are in play at the moment, but I propose we take everything at face value and see this as an opportunity to get the Rio Grande Plan into the official records. I'll keep y'all posted.

It's unfortunate that they didn't mention the Rio Grande Plan. It's an extremely well-thought-out use for the depot and area. And, it would be an absolutely amazing feather in the cap of our capital city and state in general. I love how it would revitalize and consolidate the railyards into more useable public space. Your vision and renderings are inspiring for what this state and city needs.

As I was watching the Fox13 video and they were mentioning the summer and winter markets, I was thinking that the 1/2 block between the depot and Pioneer Park would be an amazing place for that, especially if they brought TRAX straight down 400 West and it was something people walked past between TRAX, FrontRunner, and other services.

I know that's different from what your proposal is, but it would be awesome to have TRAX stop right in across from the park and have the depot a half-block away with a hive of outdoor market activity in-between—that section of 300 South should be restricted to pedestrians only. Plus, it would mean less zig-zagging for TRAX in general.

If they did that, then Rio Grande Street could become a restricted road between 200 and 400 South for deliveries and dropoffs only—with no ability to cross 300 South—possibly becoming overflow areas for the outdoor market.

It's a little frustrating to me that they would do a report on the Rio Grande Depot and not mention the Plan. It's not like there aren't any public officials supporting the RGP. Dan Dugan for example, who is now the chair of the SL City Council, is high on it.

As for the market, I'm still in love with the old plan of putting it right next to the Depot. With a functioning historic train station connecting it to the entire valley, this could really be as noteworthy as any public market in the country, imo:

Toured 650 main today. Its absolutely beautiful inside and outside (just wish it were taller) I especially think the south-facing glass wall is very attractive.

There was an announcement awhile back that a Mexican restaurant chain (Sol Agave) from California has leased the space. Here's a site plan that shows where the retail space is located:

Since I'm fairly new to Utah, and the post above reminded me, I'm curious how the Grand America and Little America hotels came out so different in appearance. I know the GA was built for the Olympics, I can't find when LA was built, but how did two hotels related to each other within the same chain get built with such disparate finishes? The LA is such an eyesore to me.

The beauty about the Rio Grande is that I'm pretty sure there's been a plan for that area ever since I started posting here on SSP.
