Gritty is sort of a fun term that has a wide degree of latitude.

Sure, Oshawa is probably 'gritty' from a Markham perspective. The same with Windsor. Are they 1970s New York City nadir? Or de-industrializing Gary, IN?

It mostly says how charmed we have it than how gritty these places actually are.
