Soon, there will be 4 musketeers in terms of width: Metlife building (200 Park Avenue), One Vanderbilt, 270 Park Avenue, and 175 Park Avenue.
I wouldn’t put Vanderbilt in that category.

True but compared to the other ones on this list it looks skinnier. I mean seriously these things are monsters. Hope to see lots more of them go up, Midtown East transformation is just getting started.

It has the perception of being "beefy" because it covers an entire block. It's not a typical city block. We don't consider 383 Madison (current headquarters of Chase) beefy, but it's on the same sized block.
Anyway, back to current matters at hand. It looks like we've entered another phase of construction. Probably my last look for a couple of weeks.
This remains my favorite tower under construction right now, even if they won't show me what it looks like. (Those bastards).

Those bits of trusswork on the outside of the vertical columns are new. Looks like some kind of jack forming system, but that seems weird on a steel building. Can’t wait to see how those are used.

Looks like something more permanent, looking at the "raw" columns. But hard to see exactly what's going on up there. Maybe someone can explain it.

Looks like a cocooning system. It will wrap the building and climb with it.

I always wonder whether pedestrians who walk past this know or care about what is currently rising.
Most of them? Probably not. But you could say that about most things.

They do. Not everone of course, because there is always so much construction in the city. But people take note, whether because of the unusual form, block-long construction, maybe former workers, I’m not sure. It could also be from surprise at the old building being gone (a lot of people didn’t get around during the pandemic). But people take note. I’m sure most of them don’t have any idea of what it’s supposed to look like. That’s where a site rendering is supposed to come into play.

Yeah, even though we don’t have an official rendering for this building. But at least we got a glimpse of what it may look like thanks to the plans.
