The Chilling Barge has been enjoyed by most locals. We see these things under tow all over the place (in the straight, the harbour, and up the river). They are ubiquitous. This one (on the rocks, not the beach) has given everyone a chance to see just how big they really are. From the vantage of a kayak they are as impressive as are the much larger ships.

It totally is a “locals feel” type of thing.

Don’t let negativity get in the way of some simple enjoyment.

It would be cool if they could secure it and level it, put it to some use.

I'm all for reusing things but that seems that a huge chore to secure and turn an abused barge into something nice. Didn't it come to rest at a existing viewing/rest area?

Love these shots of Mt Baker from Vic and Vancouver.
Baker is the most active volcano in the Cascades other than Mt. St Helens.

I read the last time it had activity, or at least steam venting was 20 years ago. Would be ominous to see volcanic fumaroles from it from lower mainland.

I'm over seeing snow. Edmonton looks as good blanketed in it. Lots of evergreens.

I never understood why they don't use more evergreens in eastern cities like Toronto. Our ravines have them but they aren't used very much in our parks.

I love evergreen trees, and it puzzles me why most of our parks have deciduous trees that have leaves only 4-5 months of the year.

Yeah, I've yet to see the city plant one. Maybe none are considered native to Toronto or they take up too much space? It's unfortunate as the spring wind storm a few years ago knocked down most of the mature Spruce street trees (probably planted by the developer in the 1950s) These post war subdivisions have very few trees from the time of development. These Spruce lasted longer than the leafy counterparts.

they had short needles hence the Spruce reference.
