I think to get this thing started and feasible - the building floor area needs to get smaller.

I have no idea what they are proposing, but I will be surprised if it doesn't include some type of removal of the interior on floors 3 thru 6 to create an atrium.

I was thinking something along those lines but with some sort of residential tower addition coming out of the centre.

Maybe even two layers of it. There's a lot of space there. Over 600,000 square feet. It's actually a little bigger than the Richardson Building in floor space.

As esquire asked; "is the money lined up and ready to go?" Without that, all the positive vibes are just smoke and mirrors, IMO. The article seems to suggest the province will actually have a role in this process. Unfortunately, the "glass is half full" comment makes me think the announcement will be quite underwhelming.

I admit, anything other than "we have a plan and the $$ is in place" would be a disappointment to me. I've seen these development non-announcements too many times to get too excited about the dramatic unveiling of a pretty picture, surrounded by chatter about what "might" happen, one day, maybe, anyone have any money??

If anyone is expecting a skyscraper on top of a 600,000 square foot building, they will be disappointed. This is not New York. Expect a really great redevelopment of a beautiful heritage building.

That’s to be expected. The more important question if you are able to answer is will the parkade also be in consideration for future redevelopment?

No soup kitchen in there. And BIG UC is correct...behind, facing parkade towards ST Mary is the ugly side...Micro apartments for a portion is ok but not social housing in such a prominent space. It will cost plenty to renovate so there has to be some condos or higher end apartments on some levels wither they add floors or not. A multi purpose idea is best. Part hotel, residential, some commercial, mostly eateries, some gourmet take out, bakeries, ethnic foods?
Keep it busy with a variety rather than one large thing like office space.
Office space will not make this work.
A floor for movies, entertainment like Silver City is good, probably best for second floor..
