FYI, walked past the site today and they've already started placing the retaining walls of the new Waller Creek path, where it emerges from the Cesar Chavez bridge.

There's a good chance that we'll see a much improved creek experience well before we see height.

The off topic nonsense went on too long. It was dumped in the Misc. thread.

Just what We vs us said about the wall. It's a very substantial wall, and it's going up rather fast.

The fence is the dividing line between Travis and 98RR site prep.

I hear yea! The "piano or can lid" crown on this tower defiantly can be improved upon! It can only be seen from certain angles, and is quite bland. Also more of a twist on the tower part might be nice!

Perennials' recent rendering is simply beautiful.

What I would love to see is a rendering of the tower in the context of the overall skyline. Something that can convey a good sense of scale compared to our current tallest buildings.

The closest I have seen thus far was from this rendering, albeit with the older design.

That rendering seems undersized to me. It should be taller up against the Fairmont, IMO.

I think the Fairmont is taller in the rendering than in real life also; more floors than it really has and minus the mast.

The Fairmont's glass is extended to the height of its spire in that rendering. The height is technically accurate, but the look isn't.

What Echostatic said. Looks like the artist probably just looked up the height and designed some generic version of it, without realizing the tower doesn't actually reach to the tip of the "spire".

Now that makes more sense. I await grand renderings and official start.

I believe that once this is topped out, it will look every inch of its 1022 feet. My neck is already aching from looking up from the base...or as close as I can get to it. The renderings will never get close to properly give us the true perspective of its height. It begs us to be patient to see the end results. A lesson I learned a while back. While I may be a tad disappointed with the overall design, I think in a few years, most of us will be raving about this thing. The same can be said for 6th and Guad.

I'm fine with it purely on the basis that it is a supertall that will also be the tallest in Texas, but we desperately need a few others like it that are better designed IMO, because a fairly average tower being the tallest one is kind of lame.

Based on how hot Austin has been and will continue to be, we deserve a supertall that is world-class in the way it looks and feels.

It's going to be memorable, that's for sure. I can't think of a similarly sized building in North America that is as bizarre as this one is. It'll for sure be our signature tower . . . though it remains to be seen if it's something we'll want to be remembered for.

Agree with all of ya's! I do really wish it was located off 6th or something. Having a centralized signature supertall helps balance things out....and I am not crazy about rainey street.

Would be nice if the tower portion looked a little more seamless like the similarly-designed Rainier Square tower in Seattle.

I think 98 looks a lot better than Rainier Square.
