The key with trees is you need water to runoff into an area where trees can have water. We have so much concrete everywhere and we need more stormwater pits so not all of it goes to the stormwater pipes. Philly has done a decent job with this so far and continues to grow this program.

Good to see the Auto Show is back!

Philadelphia Auto Show's return set to boost Center City businesses

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia...lphia-auto-show-returns-center-city.html

"As the city continues to roll back Covid-19 restrictions like its indoor mask mandate, the Philadelphia Auto Show is gearing up for its return to the Pennsylvania Convention Center this week after a 2021 hiatus."

"The renewal of the more than 500,000-square-foot show bodes well for the city’s effort to recover economically from Covid-19 as it's one of the first large-scale Center City events since the pandemic began, said Kevin Mazzucola, executive director at the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia, which is producing the show. The event typically draws about 250,000 people and is credited with creating $50 million in economic impact."

It seems The Badger Group’s website, which announced plans for the South Broad Development via Naked Philly today, also has also presented plans to redevelop the old Family Court Building as a hotel (The Julian). There were plans for another hotel here a few years ago that fizzled out. It looks like it would be operated by Starwood and Dranoff is also involved. Although, this may be just one of several competitive proposals being presented to the city for the site.

^ Starwood is now under Marriott, and I wonder which Starwood brand it would be? Perhaps a Luxury Collection?

Would be great to see this and Virgin Hotel come to life. Philadelphia is ready for another luxury hotel now that The W and 4 Seasons are established.

Woah. This project right here would be a catalyst for South Broad.

This project alone would electrify the area and push development down S Broad.

At this point we will see Skyscrapers lined up all the way down to Passyunk in the next decade.

They need to fast-track this project. Having a Virgin Hotel will be awesome and bring a fun factor to the city! And this will no doubt step up the social scene for Philly.

Im pissed City Diner closed right there, it was a good spot and open 24 hours.

Im hoping what comes back this year is 24 hour everything the fact that we lost a lot of 24 hour scenes killed the social scene as well.

24 hour subway on the weekend, 24 hour diners, 24 PLACES THAT ARE OPEN.

The pandemic did a lot of bad things but it did bring a lot of change that was needed.

Definitely. The new 4 Seasons & W added a much needed chic / social element to the Philadelphia hotel scene. A Virgin would add even more. And a luxury Starwood brand near Logan Square would add energy to that area.

For better or worse, there is a push for last call in Philadelphia to extend until 4am, which would certainly result in more people out later, and additional late night food options.

^^ Thats huge!! If built that tallest tower could be what, 400 feet tall? And a second tower that probably 200 feet? It also includes a new theater, greenery, tons of mixed use space, preservation of I believe the old medical center as well! I really hope this happens, just wish the smaller tower wasn't as wide lol. I really hope this happens, it would be skyline changing, and a huge step forward for the area

Love it! Keep in mind that the city's RFP (request for proposals) for the old Family Court Building also included the redevelopment of the massive parking lot at 19th and Callowhill.

Taller one is about 370-375. Symphony House is 375 feet tall.

Unfortunately, there are barely any parcels zoned for dense building south of Washington Ave so this would take a drastic (and imo needed) rezoning effort. In fact, a majority of it is single family and not even multifamily. Another challenge would be even with permissive zoning, ownership is very fine-grained with it being made up of mostly single family homes or formerly SFH with retail conversion so assembling parcels would be particularly challenging. The only parcel I see with dense zoning (CMX4) is at Snyder where the Walgreens is.

Just drove by this site yesterday and they have a mock-up of the glass skin, if someone wants to go and snap a pick.

I hate it when people ask about the status of projects that have been seemingly been shelved - if there were any news, we would hear about it, right?
Except I'm going to ask - does anyone know the status of the two buildings that were supposed to be built in the stadium complex - the Pattison Place office building and the Philadelphia Fusion arena? I went on both websites to see if there was any news, but it looked as though the websites hadn't been updated in a while.
https://pattisonplaceoffices.com/
https://fusionarenaphilly.com/
I don't think at this point that you can blame the pandemic for a lack of construction activity, at least not directly. I could see if they decided not to build Pattison Place because the need for offices has softened because companies are letting employees work from home for a lot of the time, but that's different than saying that construction is being held up because of the pandemic.
anyway, just curious if there's any news on these projects.

Great to see.

Many large events and conventions, including the Army-Navy Game, are returning to Philadelphia in 2022

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia...cx_testVariant=cx_8&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s

"More than 150 major conventions, meetings and sporting events generated by the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau are slated to take place in the city throughout 2022. The lineup is anticipated to draw 450,000 attendees, fueling upward of 498,000 hotel room nights and $371 million in economic impact."
