Pretty much all upward now, the City has shut off any new, not already OCP approved outward expansion. The suburbs will still be able to sprawl within their limited geography, but the city will now be pretty much just intensification. And what is most interesting is that it's not just towers, their single family infill policies are well ahead of many larger cities.

There is no reason why, in the future, it couldn't become a retiree magnet for the entire country.

I think a million people in the metropolitan area is doable, but will require careful planning to promote densification, and a second bridge over the lake, and a bypass around the core area of the city. Better highway connectivity would be necessary too. I know there is the Okanagan Connector now leading to the Coquihalla Highway, but what about an expressway northward leading to the TCH at Salmon Arm?

Theoretical question. Which city is better positioned to be the next million person city in western Canada, Winnipeg, Kelowna, Saskatoon or Victoria? Winnipeg has a healthy head start, and is the likely winner, but I could see Kelowna coming on like gangbusters in this race.
I agree, The Okanagan is filling fast but with densification and proper planning for infrastructure like more redundancy such as extra lake crossing and light transit in the future, I could see it hitting a million in the future.

Currently there are 350,000 in the light yellow and orange of map.

Another part of province that will likely hit a million in the next ten or 15 years may be Vancouver Island which has 850,000 people, which would make it eighth most populace province in Canada if it were it's own province, to help put it in prospective.

Capital region is well over 400,000 and will likely get to half million in 2030's
Comox Valley/Nanaimo is at a quarter million already, same number of people as Ontario north and west of Wawa, which is most of Ontario land mass.

I can't see Winnipeg not getting to a million first before Victoria and Kelowna.
The red circle representing 75 min drive of Winnipeg already has a million Manitobans. Same density within 75 mins Quebec city.

Saskatoon i don't know as much about but I did look up that one of it's suburbs was fastest growing community in Canada in the census just before this last one. Sasktoon always seems to be in top 5-10 or at least top 50% of CMAs for growth in Canada.

Again red circle is 75 mins drive of Saskatoon and it has half a million people, which would make it ninth most populace province in Canada if it were a province it's self.

A similar 75 min red circle around Regina would be 400,000.

Thanks so much Zoomer. Good eye, I didn't even notice that crane. I'm wondering if it's one of the Oakbay developments?

I'm actually thinking this might be the crane that's up on the corner of McKenzie and Shelbourne.

On a personal note, if I may, I live in that building on the lower center of the picture with the two pointing hats. In fact, I can see the lights in my living room :-)

A top floor unit with those skylight would be grand. Love the roof access. I would want an elevator.

There is an elevator. And there's a rooftop terrace with a great view of downtown.

Neat! And where does the view come from? I presume it's from the parking garage of the General Hospital?

Nice shot of Edmonton. Also great shot of the Hammer. I see 2 cranes. I'm curious why the structure in the foreground doesn't have a crane.

Embarrassingly, that build has been put on hold and has been in this state since ~May 2021.
