The rental market is starting to become just as crazy as the housing market. My fiancee and I gave our landlord notice after finding a house to buy, which we eventually backed out of upon inspection. It only took three days from the listing date to secure a new tenant in the meantime, so we were worried that we would have to scramble to find a new house AND a new apartment in simultaneously competitive markets! Luckily, we just found another house, so we avoided an unsettling situation; nevertheless, it gave me anecdotal proof that Greater Center City (we live in Fairmount, for now) is back.
The rental market of today stands in huge contrast to the one of last year, where we were able to negotiate a lease extension in exchange for a free parking spot (usually $175/month) for my then-girlfriend.
