Going through some old pics from 20 years ago. Here's Frost tower in its early stages of construction

Frost on the left and the Hilton u/c at the end of the block

The old Frost 'tower'

Strange to see without the Frost logo

omfg. Yeah, memories for sure. I'll never forget seeing frost lit for the first time. I was sneaking up from San Antonio with my best friend to see Le Tigre play at Emo's -- my jaw dropped while we were on 35. My first thought was never-ending story

Here is the same building in 1922 when it was the Tenth Ward Fire station, and a tornado blew a moon tower over onto it:

An old proposal to replace Auditorium Shores.

No date is visible, but Ron Mullen was mayor from 1983 to 1985.

This photo dates from after 1888 when the Capitol was complete, but before the Moonlight Towers were completed in 1895.

Man, how fun would it be to travel back in time. I wish Austin had preserved a lot of those buildings. And I wish the rail tracks would have never been removed from Congress.

The first thing I noticed in this great photo was the dirt streets and lack of walls by the churches on the right. I thought of the tremendous rains we get and the erosion and just plain mess the city would be after a rain. It looks like pedestrians on Congress might have some type of more solid walkways, or maybe just covers, however even the avenue is still dirt. Does anyone know when Congress first got a hard covering over the dirt?

^^ Crazy. So they built a building and knocked it down before it ever had a tenant?

Wow! That makes the Intel Shell and Austin Music Hall II look like venerable old establishments in comparison.

^ It's always fun seeing the renderings of buildings that were eventually built. Thanks for posting.
