I don't care for it too much either but there's a lot of garbage on Riverside Dr between downtown and Hiram Walker that should be torn down and replaced with higher density. There's some high-profile huge vacant lots that have just been sitting empty for over 20 years.

Looks like some new condo type apartments are going up in Amherstburg on Front Rd. across from the Amherstburg Yacht Club, four six floor buildings with SFH’s behind. It should make a much nicer entrance into town.

A little off topic but census data is out. Our region grew 6% as a whole or to 422,860. I was expecting a bigger increase to be honest. City of Windsor planner Thom Hunt says our actual increase should be around 10% see link below. Lakeshore lead the way with a 10.4% increase.

I’m sure it did grow more than shown, especially with the normal undercount and the 5,000 international students that weren’t here during the census taking, so the 10% figure is probably fairly accurate.

I wonder how long before we hit the half million mark?

undercount is consistent between censuses typically though, so unless you expect the undercount to be larger this year, it's likely accurate on a percentage basis.

The 422k is likely a low number for the actual population, but it's likely not wrong in terms of % growth.

6% growth is very healthy for Windsor, don't get that wrong either. 10% growth would put it at 2% annually, making it's growth rate on par with cities like Austin, and among the highest on the continent. 2% annual growth is an insane pace, even 1.2% annual growth is very healthy.

I think the concern is we are not building enough to keep up with the increasing demand for housing. Hence the surge in prices every month. Although I like how we are developing vacant lots and buildings.
Also pretty soon the county will be home to more people in this region then in the city of Windsor

It was really good to see the region posting some healthy growth numbers after stagnation in the previous census. I think it's definitely driven a lot of the infill development that we've seen, although there are definitely more brownfield sites within the city that can (and should) be redeveloped.

One thing I found interesting was the Tecumseh had hardly any growth at all. I'm wondering if folks who would have moved to Tecumseh moved to Lakeshore instead? I don't have an inside scoop on Tecumseh so not sure if that's accurate, if someone does I'd be curious to know!

I think it has more to do with Tecumseh not having any new subdivisions available to build on, though I read that there are some are expected to come online soon.

Nice to see that one of suburbs, Lakeshore is now over 40K.

twin 21 story green residential towers.
This is/would be quite incredible.

The old Windsorite in my says i'll never live to see it come to fruition but man do i ever have my fingers crossed and my hopes up

Nice find. Is that the site of the old Chrysler dealership? This project would definitely brighten up that part of DT.

directly across from the downtown beer store... foggy memory but yes i believe that lot was an old dealership.
kiddy corner to the grocery store as well right? One block north of the fire department headquarters

Oh wow that looks incredible! Walking distance to the Food Basics as well. Definitely have my fingers crossed too!

Do you know when this was posted? I'm curious if this is a new proposal or if the site has been sitting around for a while

Would love to see these be built in that location, it’s been an empty parking lot for a long time. Now would be the best time to get these built with the real estate market being so strong.

Looks like they are hoping to start construction within the year, and then looking at 3-4 years until completion. Makes sense from the scale it would take some time. Great to see though, especially on a vacant parcel downtown!

Hopefully this pans out better than the Inspiration Tower! Still waiting to hear something from that project, but it's been pretty silent for a while too

ehh I'm doubtful, doing green plantings on buildings are extremely expensive as you have to run self sufficient irrigation systems, build thicker slabs to support the weight of the soil on the protruding balconies, etc. Trees especially are extremely expensive to plant on balconies as they require a substantial amount of soil.

You can cut costs if they are hand watered, but then the condo board has huge watering bills and gardeners have to cut through people's units all the time to access the plants.

I suspect if this does happen that it'll get scaled back to a giant concrete block with some built in flower planters on the balconies which occupants have to self maintain, and which most won't..

Phase 2 for the Walkerville Stones project set to have groundbreaking on Thursday for 12 more townhome-style (similar to the current ones on Walker). This project has been making good progress! Sounds like they plan on continuing the project later this year on the property between St. Luke, Walker, and Richmond by extending Whelpton west. Glad to see this moving along
