My understanding is apartments. Owners of Thandi that also renovated the old fire station on Union Street

Those Juliet balconies in front of the windows (not doors) on The Telegraph are heinous.The upper floor being entirely concrete panels isn't a great look either.

I think the developers did a great job and it’s a beautiful edition to the uptown

The tops of the windows don't even line up with the tops of the doors. Yeesh. Reeks of cost cutting and/or lack of attention to detail.

Also just curious as to how this was able to pass by the heritage bylaws as far as keeping with the aesthetic look of other buildings in the area.

The renders definitely suggested there would be higher quality materials, IIRC. Even the choice of brick doesn't match. I'm happy to see infill here but I wish that developers around here would up their game a bit on the design front.

Out of everything going up or proposed as far as new build multi-unit development goes, only The Wellington and Fundy Quay appear to be trying to raise the bar, IMO.

They wanted the brick portion to align with the brick buildings to the left. The city requested changes to the design even after the project started. Reality is the economics of a 32 unit building is not the same as a building with 80+ units. You want Fundy Quay quality, nobody will be able to afford to live there. The Wellington has government funding and taps into a couple federal programs so not a fair comparison economics wise. Once it’s fitted up with it’s lights, fully occupied with commercial space on bottom opened up it will look great IMO.

I love both the Wentworth and Telegraph additions to the city. I am more than happy to have them versus what was there before. Plus they've both added to the skyline of the city in different ways.

Here's hoping there will be a few more of these in places that could use an infill. Looking at you corner of Coburg and Union & Princess and Canterbury.

This isn't uncommon. The design here is decent in my opinion. They continuity of the eye-level streetscape is what was key here - the brick use as CdnGuys mentioned. Usually done for the first 1-5 floors then a set-back where the materials and design can be significantly different. In many cities, it is a "podium". Basically, as a pedestrian walks down the street, they shouldn't be able to tell if it is a new building by similar use of materials. I think they've accomplished this well given budget constraints.

Drove down Paddock today and spoke with a couple of construction crews.

The little long vacant SFH at 22 Paddock is being gutted for owner occupancy.

The former 31-unit rooming house it shares a wall with at 24 Paddock is being converted to a 9-unit apartment building.

The projects are not related. This pretty much completes the conversion of Paddock from looking like a war zone to a well occupied, pleasant street. All that remains are a couple rougher facades and the eventual redevelopment of the Paddock Street lot, which is borderline surplus following the construction of the JDI parking garage.

And it looks like another building on City Road is coming down...this time, the one located at the corner of City Road and Clyde St.

I think someone in the link above said it was once an armouries facility, but that it had been owned by the Irvings for a while.

A little cool addition coming to uptown: Area 506 has announced an electric scooter rental company will occupy a space in the container village. These are hugely popular in big cities in the summer months.
