No. It appears to be a replacement for Maverick's at the Four Point Hotel. As such, I doubt that it will be a chain, but it should be a high quality independent (which is a better outcome if you ask me).

Ecko Unlimited is busy packing up today, presumably for their rumoured move to the former Pantorama location.

COBS Bread is looking for local franchisees in NB (Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton).

https://www.cobsbread.com

Quote:
COBS Bread started in 1980 in Australia as a family run business called Bakers Delight. There are now over 600 Bakers Delight locations in Australia and New Zealand. COBS Bread has been built on this success and experience with over 125 bakeries in Canada, and plans to grow by an estimated 15 bakeries per year for the next several years.
These stores are typically located in suburban strip malls. Champlain Plaza in Dieppe, Findlay Park in Riverview or the Granite Centre in Moncton would be likely spots for such a franchise.

Eventually the Moncton area could easily support more than one of these bakeries. But at 15 new locations yearly in Canada, I see us getting one. Champlain Plaza would be my first choice.

I’ve been told that the Main Street Superstore will no longer be renovated this year. I’m guessing that they deferred it to the Trinity Superstore. From having worked at this store, I can tell you that I would be concerned with the foundation quality of the building due to the building being 35 years old having opened in 1986 and having been built on a marsh.

I can’t help but wonder if they had people come in to look at the building to prep for renovations and find something that made them question the investment in a retail structure that is so old. This is all speculation of course but it does beg the question if they are considering relocating this store to better suit today’s market.

An interesting look into the future:

Parkland Rolling Out Ultra-Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Locations in Canada Including ‘Gas Station of the Future’
By Mario Toneguzzi
February 10, 2022
https://retail-insider.com/retail-inside...ada-including-gas-station-of-the-future/

This article has to do with plans to role out more EV charging stations in BC and Alberta, but the article is well done, and includes images of the EV service stations of the future. Interesting stuff...........

The concept shows an elongate building surrounded by EV charging stations under a continuous canopy. The building will contain restaurants, convenience stores and services like washroom facilities to cater to customers while they wait 20-30 minutes for their cars to recharge.

Expect to see these types of dedicated facilities popping up around here within the next 10 years. The future is approaching like a freight train.

Used to live near a Cobbs bread in B.C and would absolutely love a few of their locations out here!
In the grand scheme of things the franchising fees are pretty reasonable too.

I'm wondering for my next car which I will be looking to buy within the next 5-7 years. Do I go for an electric vehicle? Will there be enough charging stations to make it worth while? Feels like 10-15 years it would be a no brainer going full electric.

I just got my second hybrid last fall, but I've been keeping an eye out for a pure-EV situation. Like you are implying, it's a matter of watching for the charging capacity and coverage, as well as making sure the technology is mature enough.

I didn't feel like we were quite there yet. When I swap again in 4-ish years, I'm not sure if it will be there yet either. But I'm pretty sure by 2030, I'll be comfortable going full EV. (and may not have a choice by then anyways)

Fingers crossed when the switch over to electric the buildings can use solar panels on the top of the buildings for some renewable energy too. Maybe that will also help keep the cost of electric cars down when there are more of them on the road vs gas cars.

Just Cozy has recently completed their move into the recently relocated Ecko Unlimited space.

All part of the general reshuffling of stores incited by the consolidation of four store fronts in the south wing of CF Champlain.

Peavey Mart to Expand into Canadian Maritime Provinces with 1st Store in Nova Scotia [Exclusive]
By Mario Toneguzzi

Peavey Mart, Canada’s largest farm and ranch retailer, will be expanding its national footprint to truly become a coast-to-coast brand when it opens its first store east of Ontario in September in Bedford, Nova Scotia, just outside of Halifax, Retail Insider has learned.

Peavey Mart in Bedford, Nova Scotia (Rendering: Peavey Mart)

This will be Peavey Marts 90th location, and will be 39,000 sq ft.

Quote:
“We’re very agriculture focused. You’ll have all of your feeds and supplies for livestock and animals, you’ll have your garden centres, your growing goods. Anything for life in the country, or as a homeowner, you will find at a Peavey Mart.”
I was surprised to find out that this chain has 90 locations in Canada (since I had never heard of them before). They may be "farm oriented", but, by locating in Bedford, they are signalling that this new store is going after suburban home owners.

I can definitely see one of these stores opening soon in New Brunswick. The question is where. It doesn't necessarily have to be in one of the big cities, and a town like Sussex (or Woodstock) would make sense. Still, they are also targeting suburbanites, and Moncton could therefore be on the radar. This store sounds similar to the Co-op Country Store on Collishaw, so there is a precedent.

This could be an addition to the Granite Centre, if they were interested.

Peavy is the parent company of TSC (Tractor Supply Co) in Canada. They rebranded in 2020. TSC is a huge chain. They even have one in Calais Me.

The Trinity Superstore renovations are coming along nicely! The store is starting to resemble the newly renovated stores. I noticed there are fewer cashes (down to 7) and more self checkouts.

TSC hasn't been affiliated with Tractor Supply since the 80's, they have been a Canadian company since then. Peavey bought the chain a few years ago and have been gradually rebranding. Interesting looking store in that image for Bedford, it looks quite a bit larger than the original TSC stores we have around here. I can definitely see several locations around NB and NS, especially if they are open to the TSC style stores.

It would appear that the consolidation of the four storefronts between Just Cozy and Marie Claire is all but confirmed. There is indeed a new large retailer coming.

One informant who claims to have seen some drawings however had information that would tend to make Old Navy an unlikely candidate for this new store.

If his information is correct (and I cannot vouch for the reliability of what he told me), then the new tenant will not be Old Navy, but an even more exciting retailer.

Between two sources today, I have a new list of possible tenants (two to be precise) that would be bombshells for CF Champlain. I think it's too soon however to spill the beans as to what I have been told. The information could still be wrong, and only one of these two people is potentially correct.

In either event however, the shoppers of southeastern NB will be very pleased.
This post was from back on January 12th.

The source that contacted me way back then gave me information leading me to believe that the new retailer that would be occupying the consolidated space in the south wing of CF Champlain would be LL Bean.

Specifically, the source had information regarding the colour, styling and type of cladding materials that would be used in the store, which seemed identical to those used at LL Bean in Dartmouth Crossing. In addition, the consolidated space in the mall is nearly identical in size to the Dartmouth Crossing location.

Today, I see lots of furious activity over on Retail Talk & Share regarding the possibility of LL Bean coming to the mall. A couple of posters claimed first or second hand knowledge, even mentioning that interior fit-up would start in May, with a view towards an August opening date. That's getting pretty damned specific.

I think it is becoming clearer and clearer that the new anchor for CF Champlain will indeed be LL Bean...........

The new Kent store at Mapleton/TCH on Moncton Street apparently opens in about three weeks time (mid March).

Collier's International (the leasing agent for the Granite Centre). has just announced that Wing'n It, a Newfoundland based restaurant chain has just signed a lease and will be coming to the Granite Centre.

https://wingnit.ca/

Their menu is pretty extensive:

https://wingnit.ca/menu/menu.php?id=1

They have both sit down and express locations across the country. We will be getting one of their "express" locations, which means mostly takeout, but with some internal seating.
