Current known suspension:
AC YVR-PVG: Jan 13, 17, 20, 24, 31, Feb 7, 14, 21, 28, Mar 7
AC YYZ-PVG: none
CZ YYZ-CAN: Jan 14, 21, 28, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25, Mar 4
3U YVR-CTU: Jan 19, 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, 23
HU YYZ-XIY: Jan 16, 23, 30, Feb 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar 6, 13, 20, 27
MF YVR-XMN: Jan 24, 31, Feb 7, 14
MU YYZ-PVG: Jan 29, Feb 5
CA YVR-PEK: none

So for this week, there is only 2 routes between Canada and China unaffected... AC YVR-PVG resumed 1x weekly flight this week, and already bring in 6 cases... so more suspension coming

Suspension only apply to flight into China, so some airlines do run one-way passenger flights to Canada, and return with cargo only.
Exactly what I said earlier - pretty soon there won’t be any routes flying based on those criteria.
Yeah still plenty of cargo flights between YVR and China

Couldn't possibly be anything to do with restricting travel before the Olympics next week, now could it? I mean... I wouldn't put it past 'em to put a falsified positive or two in that bunch.

Canada is apparently not the CCPs favorite country at the moment.

Don't recall any movement on it at all the times I've passed by. There is some tarp/covering with some marketing on it though so it doesn't look like a complete abandoned building.

I don't see that a problem. We need to bump up of immigration numbers. More one-way tickets from China to Canada is a positive.

No need to worry about the reverse flow.

Some transborder updates. UA moving 2/3 daily flights this summer to mainline, is reintroducing EWR (on mainline obviously), and is converting the LAX daily flight to mainline as well. AA also converting LAX to mainline 1x daily, but it looks like DFW is down to 2x daily, rather than 3x previously planned. Oh well, net zero change, but it means AA will be all mainline from YVR (not that it's much, it's 1x daily ORD and LAX and 2x daily DFW, but still, progress!). I like the vote of confidence, no matter how small, from US carriers. The decimation of the cruise industry is nothing short of a catastrophe, especially when that is such a big component of our summer numbers usually. So as much as this is small potatoes, it means something that these are showing some hope. And the additiopn of both Sun Country and JetBlue (provided the sky doesn't fall again and we're back to 2020) is a nice boost of morale.

EDIT:
UA also upped SFO to 5x daily all mainline. I am just using Sunday as a date, I'm not going through each day by day, but Sunday is a good all-aroubnd day that tends to be heavy on transborder, international, and domestic. Just a few months ago the summer schedules had UA sticking with express flying to most destinations. Now they only have 1 express flight (1x DEN) flight and the rest are mainline jets (2x CHI, 2x DEN, 1x IAH, 1x LAX, 1x EWR, 5x SFO). It's a step in the right direction, let's pray restrictions continue to lift and S22 might be at least somewhat normal-ish

Wouldn't the reverse flow just be transiting through a country China hasn't arbitrarily banned? Some country not on its pouty hit list of "countries I don't want to play with in the sand pit"

https://news.yahoo.com/canada-chinese-citizens-least-favorite-213932860.html

I'd think Chinese nationals wanting to visit Canada would just transit through Seoul.

Probably. Seoul or Tokyo.

We will lose our direct connection to Tokyo Haneda in a few weeks

ANA emailed sometime recently saying their flight will switch to Narita on March 1st.

The new flights will run Mon-Wed-Sat (rather than Mon-Wed-Fri) and going west will leave at 11:20AM and arrive at Narita at 2:50PM the next day, a full 4 hours earlier than the flight to Haneda (which makes up a bit), along with a reduction in scheduled flight time by 1 hour starting March 13. Going east however will now need to be at Narita for a 6PM departure (rather than ~10PM Haneda), arriving home at around 11AM.

From the last schedule update, Flair just increased the YVR-YYC service. Now it's scheduled 20x weekly, up to 3 flights a day.

Also Flair added YVR-ANC red-eye flight (if you can all it that)...

F8280 YVR 2130 - 2355 ANC 37 7M8
F8281 ANC 0100 - 0505 YVR 14 7M8

I guess this is for the cruise passengers who don't want to spend an extra hotel stay at ANC, and want to fly back so they don't need to take an extra day off work on Monday....?

Yep & WestJet Calgary YYC- Vancouver YVR route will be up to 12x daily this upcoming Summer 2022 by the looks of it.

While Air Canada Calgary - Vancouver flights will be up to 10x daily this Summer.

It’s not just only Flair increasing flights, WS & AC doing it as well too✅!!

I don’t get why they did this, I guess purely for cheap slots. The cruise ships get in early in the morning to make same day flights from Anchorage.

Looks like AC has chopped SJC (San Jose, CA) from the schedules. Not super surprising, in a weaker travel environment, esp. business travel, it is an easy one to chop. Sacramento still survived though, so yay? SFO got a massive boost from UA (mentioned in my thread from a couple days ago), so at least capacity to the Bay Area is still good.

And RIP to Rouge at YVR, the summer sched has this switched to mainline (don't remember when this was last mainline, I think it has been Rouge continuously since it started). AC already had switched everything to mainline long ago, but LAS was a holdout. They will be operating the 737 max, so definitely a service upgrade.

Is ANA pulling out? Don't see anything for them in S22?

SJC still scheduled to come back in W22, so likely still a temporary suspension.

DFW got a permanent cut though.

Don't forget AC Rouge will start YVR-YQB next summer, currently 3x weekly flight scheduled from May through Oct (rather than limited service outside of July/Aug)

On the other hand, YVR-YHZ got reduced to 5x weekly in July/Aug, and between 2x to 4x weekly from May through Oct.

BOS, ANC, MEX also see reduction to below daily at some point during the operating season.

ANA is moving YVR service to NRT until the end of summer schedule at least, still at 3x weekly.

Maybe people want to spend a day at Anchorage, or take some land tour, which will not be able to catch the AC flight when they got back to the city in late afternoon?

Make for a very long day. Usually you need to get up early to have breakfast on the ship. They want you off as quickly as possible. So your up from 6:00 AM to what 1:00 AM when you can sleep on an aircraft to Vancouver that arrives at 5:00 AM.

No Thanks.

It is a ULCC what do you expect. They will probably charge you extra to bring a pillow so you can sleep during the 4 hour "morning" flight.

It looks like AA has cut YvR PHX in it's last round of route cut.

Flight time is only 3 hours. Don't forget to add 1 hour going from Alaska to Pacific time.

But you never know what people will do to save a few hundred bucks on their vacation...
