Couldn't agree more. This is such a prettier building.

The newest renderings we have are over a year and a half old, so there could be some changes. But the elevations have had only minor updates during that time. So I would only expect minor changes to the building. Street/creek level could have more noticeable changes due to the Waller Creek project and Red River expansion. Tweaks due to both those issues seem to be what's keeping site plan approval from being done already.

I really do not like the crown on this one and think it ultimately looks amateurish compared to most of major cities with supertalls. I just don't want Austin to become a city of forgettable crowned buildings in 10 years.

It reminds me of these homes you'll see around town:
The tilted red poles always trigger me on these...

I am liking the twist!

I am starting to see the objections to the crown. The lighting of the "open can" will not be seen from the east: from IH35. Yes it looks like an open tuna can the more I look at it, and less of a crown for a Major Building. Maybe an open piano.

It seems so obvious that it just needs to be extended 100/200 feet taller, continue the receding curve/twist all the way up, and come to a sharp point with a spire at the top. It would world class if it did that.

I wonder if they have the funds to add such a crown....that would totally be iconic forever. Even if something taller came along, the location would always be front and center.

I think that's it, it just needs something sharp OR a flat beveled / lit crown.

I could live with flat. Do we have renderings looking at the latest version from the east? I can't recall seeing the backside of it that would face I-35.

The first half of this will seem like forever to rise but after the first split, full speed to the finish line.

Here is a picture of the site from CC showing the piece of the Iron Works parking lot retaining wall that was taken down.

Nice update! They added some rocks for stability along the route for Ranger Excavation vehicles to come and go during site prep and excavation.

Here's another view of the construction entrance off of Cesar Chavez. The right lane of Cesar Chavez is still scheduled to be closed the first week of April.

I was at that intersection Friday during afternoon rush and it was a disaster already. A large Ranger dump truck was either just entering that way or trying to back out which wasn't going to happen. I was actually in a wreck there Friday afternoon when someone made a bonehead illegal turn and ran into me.

Why hasn't the City extended Rainey St through to Cesar Chavez? Seems like it will be needed.

It's happening. A right of way closure permit was filed today so DPR can move their construction office trailers on to the surface lot between 98RR and the IHOP in late March. This is a week or two before the scheduled Red River and Cesar Chaves street closures for construction in early April.

I agree. There should be at the very least a temporary extension of Rainey to Cesar Chavez complete with traffic light and left turn lane signal.

"More prominent" is relative. The Library Tower in LA (US Bank) is a gorgeous building. This design is very different, and not as good as the original proposal (in my and many others' opinions). It may end up being four feet taller, but its prominence is dependent upon one's criteria to judge it so.
