I only complain because I have lofty expectations for downtown and want each project to be the best it can be. I am disappointed when I see a new building fail to reach it's full potential. In the interest of balance, I was in the Old Bank District (are we still calling it that?) for a show a few days ago and was very impressed by the Citizen M hotel. Nice material usage and I appreciated how well it fit the existing streetscape. The historic core could use thirty more projects just like it.

No, I don't think so. I think that was a name coined by Tom Gilmore to market his property conversions. Maybe people that have lived downtown for over a decade say it (I haven't heard it) but everyone pretty much says "historic core".

Ya i agree with you. I would love to see 30 - 50 new buildings in the historic core between 10 and 25 stories tall with interesting architecture. I think we will get there in due time as the large lots disappear and because smaller lots require better architecture / design.

I walked down Broadway/Spring today on my lunch break and there are *so* many beautiful old buildings, mostly in great shape, though not all full renovated, but interspersed there are lots of nondescript buildings that could totally be replaced with 10 to 25 stories infill buildings like you are seeing all across Manhattan.

+1 on the Citizen M being great. Fits right in on the block and the lobby is properly cool.

While offices may still have yet to bounce back we've seen a tremendous amount of very cool hotels (relative to options you might find in other California big cities) with the Proper Hotel, Hoxton Hotel, Freehand Hotel, Citizen M Hotel, Ace Hotel, Wayfarer, Nomad (hopefully it'll reopen) along with all the great new residential.

Wow, that's really incredible work. I still don't think most people are aware how many highrises are planned around the city. But this gives a better perspective on it.

Arts District, Union Station area, Chinatown are gonna be huge for highrises for the next 15 years. Same as Koreatown, Hollywood, Wilshire, West LA etc.

L.A. has a wonderful, iconic City Hall. The new event lighting is great. Best city hall in America, or in the top 5.

There was a pretty amazing Super Bowl light show above the Crypto.com arena last night. I couldn't tell what it was. Looked like LED lights perhaps mounted on drones that were programmed to create different formations? I took some poor video, but there should be some good video out there.

It was drones. They are doing it again tonight at 7, 830 and 10

Great shot! It’s such a crime that Wilshire cuts through this gorgeous park. I hope one day they bury that road and cap it with grass.

The skyline will stretch from Chinatown to the 110 by the time the Olympics will arrive. At some point, Macarthur Park will become a taller TOD version. Who knows when, but it's going to happen.

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw that photo. I realize that the blocks around MacArthur Park are currently rough around the edges, but the area had really good bones, and seems like it would be ideal for future densification.

520 Mateo - noticed a post that it restarted so checked it our yesterday.
Looks promising, i saw a few cherry pickers attaching fabric to the vertical wall shoring.
