My memory is a bit fuzzy. They were more friends of my wife so I actually only went inside once for a party. It still had all the original baseboards and casings... I want to say there was crown molding. They had all been renovated and well cared for.

They felt spacious and also had the tall ceilings. I wasn't expecting much when I saw them from the outside.

Still...

Those buildings should have been knocked down and this entire project should have encompassed the entire block.

I wouldn't normally push that hard for a full block acquisition but this project is of a high enough caliber that I think it would be warranted.

The Main + Main 'Urban to the Core' sign on the corner (seen here on streetview) is gone. I just noticed today. The frame is there, but the sign is nowhere to be seen. I'm not sure what that means, if anything.

Probably means nothing but at the same time, I always thought this project was too good to be true, and with the lingering pandemic and no return to the office in sight for federal workers, I wouldnt be surprised if the stars are no longer aligned for this project to break ground

I believe that parcel/tower changed hands from main + main to Rimap last summer, so it makes sense that the sign would be gone. Fingers crossed this one goes up soon!

Does anyone know what's the deal with those two tented areas? There are plenty of gas cylinders stored outside for heat.

Here is hoping, would hate for this one to be shelved like The Sky project from Richcraft.

The new article from renx.ca about the other Main+Main project in Vanier AGAIN refers to 400 Albert's tallest tower as 33 stories, not 35, yet the newest renders definitely show 35. I wonder why we keep seeing different numbers all the time? Are they going to break the tabletop or conform to it?!

The site for the tallest tower isn't owned by main + main anymore, the 35 storey tower is proposed by Rimap.

*edit: at first I thought the article was only talking about the 2 main + main towers but it does say 3 tower development, so who knows...

Oh, so they only sold the site for the tallest tower? So we might see one tower with a different design maybe.

So far, I've been fairly impressed with Rimap. If they redesign, it might not be as nice as M+M's proposal, but it should still be above average in the Ottawa context.

Explains the hotel component as well.

Looks like Rimap specializes in hotels. Perhaps Main + Main is focusing on the residential towers and outsourced the hotel to Rimap.

Ok new rule: nobody's allowed to comment in this thread unless there's good news about it

Every time I see this one pop up on the recent discussions, I get my hopes up.

This might be good news! No sure of the timing, but looks like things are progressing?! This was posted on my condo bulletin board:

Also, and this is speculation on my part, but Claridge Moon appears to be moving their staging area from the 400 Albert site to the Moon building, so...fingers crossed that this starts soon.

The site started being prepared last week, but it looks like they are just doing the two shorter M+M buildings
Might be a while till we see the tall one go up...figures!

While I'm super excited to see these two go up, they will be almost completely lost in the clump. Only the third tower, and only if it is 35 not 33 stories, can make a real impact on the skyline.

It'll be positive to have more developments further west in the downtown, though, because it always felt like downtown basically stopped at Lyon or Bay because that's where the larger buildings stopped. Now it pushes further westward and hopefully ties in better with future LeBreton and Zibi. For me, the urban form and stretching of urban Downtown is more important than skyline, at least in this particular area. The same goes for infill projects further south along Bank, but those are both adding more residents and businesses and creating better urban form at the same time, as well as bumping heights up vertically.

Regardless of impact on the skyline, the quality of architecture alone is enough to garner much excitement for this project. And as JHikka mentioned, this project, along with Moon, will play a big role in stretching the vibrancy from the eastern part of the CBD further west and hopefully into Lebreton/Zibi in the near future.

Also, I'm hopeful that the 35 storey tower will get underway soon. When it was still in M+M's hands, wasn't it due to be the first one to go up as Phase I? Perhaps someone could fact check me on that. And if ownership has changed hands, the new owners wouldn't be collecting any revenue from the shorter two towers once those are built, so it wouldn't make much sense to sit on this one for too long.
