The multifunction 260-bed facility will include two classrooms on its lower floors, as well as a 425-seat theatre.

I see Tim Bank was approved to demolish the building at 1 Lower Malpeque Road (corner of Capital Drive/North River Road). Does anyone have any word on what’s planned here? It’ll be nice to see this corner cleaned up a bit, it’s the first impression some people get when arriving in Charlottetown via Trans-Canada. It would be nice to see some sort of “statement” building.

Action Car and Truck Accessories used to be there after Hyundai but moved recently to the former KIA dealership building on North River Rd.
It's the worst location in Charlottetown for a business as it sits on a corner worse than the Tims across the street.
It'll be interesting to see what happens here.

New Census Data Shows Growth in all Main P.E.I. Municipalities

Prince Edward island's main municipalities have shown growth since the last census. However, the main percentage of population growth is in suburbia, especially in the Charlottetown Capital Region. I believe this is due to opposition to any new residential growth in Charlottetown. The condition of urban sprawl is more like suburban sprawl in this city as it is experiencing a high volume of opposition either by IRAC appeals or through letters to city hall to any development for affordable housing, condos, or just apartments thus stalling or cancelling opportunities for new people to live here. It would be safe to say that the inner city is dying. Summerside saw a .3% increase larger than Charlottetown. Is the opposition in Summerside less radical or organized?
City Hall are you listening! Shall we start pointing fingers at those who have caused this! Time for change!!

Another thing about this census, it really falls short with the numbers. It says Charlottetown only grew by 2,715 people. Now come on, in 2016 there was not the level of new immigrants there has been in the last 5 years. In fact, there was an explosion of new people. Now I know there has been an out migration but being left with only 2,715, something is wrong. The census I thought would find Charlottetown pushed over the 40,000 - 45,000 mark.
Anyone else see this too low?

The latest July 2021 population estimate has Charlottetown at 87,500. There is a severe undercount in the 2021 Census.

Numbers are in the Atlantic Canada Stats thread.

That was for the Charlottetown area. The city proper itself it’s much smaller, but I agree it was still undercounted.

I know. It's assumed the undercount is across the board in all areas of Greater Charlottetown.

Someone else I noticed is the Summerside CA doesn’t include any of the rural area outside the city limits on the eastern side of the city. I grew up in Travellers Rest and my whole family and everyone I knew in our subdivision worked in the city. I wonder why this whole area had been excluded from the CA. I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual population of the area was closer to 20,000+

Charlottetown CA is listed at 78,585 just after the estimate of over 80,000 was hailed and listed last year. Other estimates say 87,000. Did we shrink?!! One thing, I don't think the 7000 or 2500 at UPEI or HC are counted in this census. Or do they?
Not sure why but this is way less than the estimates.

Another is Stratford! 10,927, I don't think so!! The development is far more than the 1200 in six years. The rapid development of subdivisions is explosive and viewing Google Earth before and after images shows this. I would expect that number to be near 13,000 by now.

Summerside's CA encompasses only 125 sq KM
Charlottetown's CA encompasses only 1110 sq KM

Fredericton CMA is 6015 sq KM !
Miramichi CA is 7600 sq KM !
Bathurst CA is 2100 sq KM
Moncton CMA is 2560 sq KM
Saint John CMA is 3506 sq KM !
Halifax CMA is 7275 sq KM !
Truro CA is 2730 sq KM
Sydney CA is 2420 sq KM
New Glasgow CA is 2066 sq KM

Summerside and Charlottetown have some of the smallest sized CA's in Atlantic Canada!

Fredericton's CMA is almost 20% larger (in sq. KM) than ALL OF PEI!
Same for Halifax.
Same for Miramichi.
Saint John's CMA is about 25% less than ALL OF PEI

We must remember StatsCan population is based on commuter patterns, not actual population radius's around a given center. It would take upwards of 2-3 hrs. travelling time to get from edge to edge of the Halifax or Fredericton CMA's !
