Not that I’m super into the sportzballz but I’d say the Browns are the most popular (for better or worse). The Cavaliers had their moment in 2016 and now seem to be solidifying after Lebron’s departure. The Guardians … a lot of long time fans of the Indians aren’t happy with the name change. I personally like it but as a graphic designer with 28+ years in the business, I think the logos and branding are pretty meh.

Conclusion: Most of our teams are meh, so our sports obsession is meh. NFL team is actively hated.

I doubt that. It would be rare for any city not to have the NFL team number one or at least two.

I'm sure it is your personal bias in that post and not reality on the ground.

Otherwise, who goes to the games, who watches them on TV? The NFL team with a valuation of 4.2 Billion dollars and in the top five of all of the teams in the NFL in valuation.

The people I know from DC all loathe the Washington NFL team. Possibly they're liked in the burbs.

Maybe, the NFL Team in Washington is not that popular now. But historically, I think the RedskinsCommanders was by far the #1 team in popularity in DC. I think with the recent ownership under Dan Snyder, the brand has gone down.

FedEx Field (or whatever it was called before) was the biggest stadium in the NFL and had a long string of sellout games with season ticket waiting lists. The stadium has since been downgraded in seats. Also, the RedskinsCommanders fandom stretched into the Carolinas and Virginia was solid Redskin country. But Dan Snyder....

Washington is obviously an NFL town. Redskins/Commanders are #1 by a longshot. Washington is one of the most loyal NFL towns, especially in the AA community. All the NFC East teams have hardcore fanbases.

And hatred of ownership indicates passion, not apathy.

To be honest, I don't know. I assumed they did when they made changes a few years ago. If there are any locals out there, could they tell us if they still play the theme music in the stadium without the lyrics?

USC fight song and the Atlanta Braves tomahawk chop have the best fight music during games, imo.

Jimmy Carter did the chop!

I remember David Justice coming up to bat with the Tomahawk Chop going on in the background.
I also remember Reggie Bush, dominating games with the USC band blasting the fight song.

That's a good question.

I'd assume that even if they didn't play the old lyrics or show them on a screen, a lot of people would sing them anyway.

It's like the tomahawk chop is going to be really difficult to stop.

Boston, NY, St. Louis and Cincy might be the only markets where MLB trumps NFL.
