Rumour is that Torrid will occupy the old Sirens space, and therefore will not be part of the consolidation going on in the south wing of the mall.

barBurrito is coming to Moncton in a big way.........

According to Huddle, Moncton will soon be the home of two barBurrito franchises - one to open this year and the other in 2023. They hope to start work on the first unit by May.

https://huddle.today/2022/02/03/two-barburrito-franchises-opening-in-moncton/

Quote:
In an interview with Retail Insider, BarBurrito Restaurants Inc. global development VP Shawn Saraga said the ideal location for BarBurrito franchises would be “Costco-styled power centres,” a description that would fit Moncton’s Granite Centre, home to Costco and future perch of Simply For Life, perfectly.

When asked about that association, Green didn’t confirm or reject the idea of a Granite Center-based BarBurrito.

“As a general rule, our franchisees have found the greatest success in locations anchored by grocery stores. Our number two most successful franchises were at big-box locations like the Bayers Lake Shopping Centre or Dartmouth Crossing,” he said.
I noted in my own post on the previous page that barBurrito would be ideally suited to the Granite Centre too (based on the same Retail-Insider article). I betcha that this is where it's going to go; in the same plaza as The Trail Shop, Take It Outside and Simply For Life.

If so, this plaza will be mostly full, and the Granite Centre might move ahead with construction of the next plaza.

Awesome news! Though I can't get over the article calling us Monctoners and not Monctonians. 😂

Construction hoarding has gone up in the south wing of CF Champlain where that big space has been consolidated. Work therefore is about to begin for the new, as yet unknown, retailer(s).

The hoarding was painted black according to a picture I’ve seen on Facebook. So perhaps it could be a slight hint. They will also have their own exterior entrance (which work is currently underway as well). I’ve seen some suggestions that it could be Winners. We shall see.

That is where Zumiez is located. Do you have a reliable source?

Also, that's a different floorpan than on the CF Champlain website. Where did you find it?

This is the actual leasing plan on the CF Champlain site:

This is an interesting read from Retail Insider:

Thriftys Brands Launches Larger Store Format Carrying its Multiple Retail Banners:
https://retail-insider.com/retail-inside...PvGBUtux5JA3pdLudlV1CSsDBjn_9b-N-zQmISnI

Quote:
"The Thriftys Family of Brands has launched an integrated brand model for some larger format stores to carry all of the retailer’s banners.

"Josh Graham, Director of Visual Presentation, said there are a variety of storefronts based on the square footage of the store.

“Our real strategy lately is to obtain larger square footage in shopping centres. So if a store is over a certain amount of square footage we might call that store a Thriftys and really the plan there is that in a Thriftys store to be able to carry all of the different brands,” said Graham.

“Depending on the mall, most stores are called Bluenotes but in our most recent strategy to get larger square footage stores we have been opening more and more Thriftys stores which also carry Lucky Brand, Aeropostale and Bluenotes.”

“We can really create that multi-brand experience within a large square footage store. Because we do have a variety of different sizes of stores, anywhere from 2,500 square feet in some cases all the way up to a store that is 40,000 square feet, the assortment will vary based on the square footage".

The retailer is starting to take over larger real estate spaces in malls to expand this multi-brand store model".

I could see this format working at CF Champlain. A larger format Thrifty's carrying the other chain brands including Bluenotes and Aeropostale could easily fit in, say, the old Victoria's Secret space. Something to keep an eye on in the future............

They opened a Thrifty's at Uptown Center in Fredericton (in the former Urban Planet). Saint John had a location too in the former Urban Planet at Lancaster Mall (after UP moved to McAllister Place). Thrifty's only lasted about a year before closing (reason being so that Lancaster Mall could redevelop to add Planet Fitness and a new Great Canadian Dollar Store). So I could see them returning to SJ and opening in Moncton as well.

I'm wondering is it possible they are the retailer, (or one of the retailers), going in the south wing of CF Champlain? The SJ store had an exterior entrance as well as a mall entrance when they were here. Plus the construction hording that went up was painted black which matches their branding design.

When I read that article today, I must admit that the thought crossed my mind too.

People have their hopes up so much, that if the redevelopment is only for a Thrifty's, there will be a lot of disappointment.

This is an interesting job advert found on Indeed.com:

Quote:

A Hospitality Leader who wants full autonomy in their role leading an exciting new Restaurant Team.

Set to open in Spring, this new Moncton Restaurant will be Contemporary Canadian Cuisine with an Italian twist. Good Food & Cocktails. Stylish, contemporary design with a strong focus on true Hospitality. Get in on the ground level and be part of the design, menu & hiring.

The General Manager sets the tone for the entire Team. You are energetic, positive, driven, a proven team player, an accomplished leader & passionate about Hospitality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and analyze financial parameters and controls for all areas of the restaurant and determine business priorities
Ensuring complete guest satisfaction at all times, at a world-class level
Ensuring positive morale and upstanding ethics of your managers and crew
This sounds like more than your garden variety restaurant, and perhaps could be a chain restaurant of some kind. This has flown under the radar, and one wonders where it could be located. If they expect to open in the spring, then renovations or construction should be already underway, or impending.

Could this have something to do with the construction project in the south wing of CF Champlain???

Hmmmm............

If this were a chain and if this has anything to do with CF Champlain, then one possibility that comes to mind would be Olive Garden.

I don't necessarily believe this. There are only eight Olive Gardens in Canada, and they are all located in the west. It would be pretty incredible if they located their first eastern Canadian restaurant in Moncton (but then again, the first Carrabba's in Canada is in Moncton).

We will definitely have to keep a close eye on this one, as, given the salary range of the manager, I would seriously doubt that this will be a rinky-dink operation. It has the aroma of a major chain about it.

That was my initial thought, but then again, would you describe the Olive Garden menu as “Contemporary Canadian Cuisine with an Italian twist”?

Good point. Olive Garden is more "full blown 100% Italian."

It could be that we will all be disappointed, and this will be nothing more exciting than a Dieppe location for Boston Pizza. There was a rumour several years back that they wanted to open a second BP somewhere near Champlain Place.

They have discovered this job posting over on Retail Talk & Share as well. One of the posters did a location search, and it appears to correspond to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, therefore this new restaurant would appear to be a replacement or rebranding of the old Maverick's restaurant, so unrelated to the construction project at CF Champlain.

My guess, maybe an Appleby's. They're across Canada and also have some pasta dishes, at 1st I thought the same thing..Olive Garden but, they're only in the west. Whatever happened to the Jack Astor's that was rumoured to come here. Crabby Joe's is another major chain across Canada. I'm sure if this going to happen we will know soon enough.
