I don't know if is just the perspective of the pictures or not, but there seems to be a LOT of street lights. And what is with the posts between the street lights? They all look like fence posts.

Assume they are smaller lights for the multi-use path?

All we ever hear about in crashes with people walking and people on bikes is that there was "poor visibility". Therefore, more streetlighting should be a good thing, no?

It took awhile to convince people that lighting the BC Parkway is a good idea - and we're *still* waiting for that to happen along most of the route...

I'll be impressed if they manage to have a decent extension of the BC Parkway open when the Fraser Hwy Expo Line extension opens and it has lighting for bikes and pedestrians along even half of it.

I heard something that good biking and walking connections are part of the MOU between the province and the city of Surrey I think? I'm not sure, but I remember there was intent to build out biking.

Plus, with some great comments by the current council regarding biking, it's hard to feel discouraged. That said, there's 2 municipal elections to go before SkyTrain is out to Langley (2022 + 2026).

Bike-positive comments by council found here:

I drove through the other night, it was quite dark but much better, used to get stuck all the time when it was single-laned behind turning cars.

Looking at several relevant case studies worldwide, it won't be freeflowing for long! Induced demand is coming

They could've let it keep being a two-lane road, if you prefer.

Yeah, this absurdly massive highway is what will cause both Surrey and Langley boom like crazy. Without this stretch of mega road, both would just have remained quiet bedroom communities but not after this project. Things are going to get crazy!

Induced demand is not caused by population increases. What it means in this case is maybe someone who used to use the 10 or TCH will now use the Fraser Hwy. Maybe someone who lives in Langley will now consider taking a job in Surrey or New West instead of working closer to home. Maybe someone who was working remotely will now go in to the office because the commute time is cut by 20 percent.

I don't think widening highways between cities is always bad. If there used to be cars backed up behind drivers attempting to turn left, that was a safety hazard that is now addressed. I am also glad that this widening happened in conjunction with rapid transit development.

Worth noting that less than a quarter of Langley works in Surrey - most commute locally. So four lanes plus a SkyTrain should be more than enough for anybody not coming in from Aldergrove or beyond.

If you love free-flowing traffic, you should support congestion pricing!

For the new Surrey-Langley SkyTrain line extension, Rob Fleming said project officials are working to complete technical requirements, environmental assessment and Indigenous public engagements.

The $4-billion project should be completed by 2028, he added.

“That’s two full years earlier than originally contemplated,” Fleming said. “Building it in one phase instead of two, not only are we building an additional nine kilometres and making a much bigger project, we’re saving an estimated $500-$600 million by doing it in one phase.”

More details about cost and “overall approach” will be available “in a couple of quarters, later this year,” he said.

Nothing new really.

Is there a detailed map of the route through Langley? The only maps I have seen are very 'zoomed' out.

Conceptual regional SkyTrain map after SLS and Broadway-Arbutus extensions:

Conceptual alignment. The vast majority of the corridor will now be a NORTH SIDE guideway, including around 152 St and 160 St, unlike earlier concepts. Median running alignments (like North Road in Coquitlam) will still be used for short segments from KG STN to 96 Ave, 148 St to 152 St, and 192 St to 196 St.

Guideway through Green Timbers will be mostly south side, with transition to median prior to 148 St. There will be a pocket track between 140 St and 96 Avenues.

Through Fleetwood, Serpentine Valley and Clayton, on the north side of Fraser Highway.

Willowbrook to Langley City will divert north of Fraser Highway and onto Industrial Avenue to enter Langley Centre. The terminus will have a centre platform layout similar to Lafarge-Lake Douglas.

OF NOTE: Two additional documents which are the environmental screening review process summary and terms of reference, with additional details including the framework for a staged project. Under a staged process, no new OMC is built for the extension to Fleetwood; that is instead pursued when the line is given a full extension to Langley. My guess is the likelihood of an OMC in Langley City.

https://surreylangleyskytrain.ca/Documen...iew%20Draft%20Terms%20of%20Reference.pdf
and this is the detailed alignment up to 166st St. Station (from Nov 2020 - don't know if it's still current).

I have been told that 88 mph should is possible as it is running on 1.21 gigawatts through that stretch.
