The only way I could see them moving is if the city/county decided to play hardball on renovations of the stadium or some aspect of their stay, or if they got into some type of tussle with the ownership. But I don't expect that to even remotely happen. I think that led to teams you would never expect to move, like the Cleveland Browns or Oakland Raiders.

Even if the Packers were subpar for a few years, I don't think their fan base would diminish at all. The Cowboys have not made it to the Superbowl or even the NFC Championship for nearly 25 years and they are still considered one of the most popular teams, and the richest team.

What I don't get is teams like the Detroit Lions that have been awful year after year. I bet the NFL wish they could kick the Lions off of the Thanksgiving schedule, but it has been a tradition.

The Bengals, as I already mentioned, are wholly owned by The Brown family. The entire goal of said family, for decade after decade, was to buy out their minority shareholders, a feat they achieved around 2012 (one noteworthy exception is their refusal to sell the stadium naming rights, as a result, Paul Brown Stadium is one of the few stadiums in the entire United States that doesn't suck corporate cockadoodledoo). So talk of The Bengals relocating is quite premature. Perhaps, in the 2030s, if a new NFL division is established in Europe, or the NFL wishes to establish teams in Mexico, Brazil, etc., there could be a threat of a move. But all of the big cities in the United States already have teams.

Here's the current list of "the big 5" stadiums/arenas without a corporate naming rights deal. Surprisingly, 8 of MLB's 30 teams don't have a corporate naming rights deal for their ballparks.

Exactly. And that is due to very good management. Tiny base market, but huge proximal expanded market and a successful product for 100 years. Most companies would kill for this situation.

Marlins Park didn't get a corporate name (LoanDepot Park) until 2021. It took 10 years to get a corporate sponser.

Yeah, some of these corporate names are WAY beyond stupid and terrible.

I do give some credit to United Airlines for being cool with "United Center" for the home of the Bulls & Blackhawks, and not forcing the word "airlines" into the title.

The name "United Center" isn't completely god-awful, unlike a lot of these other corporate stadium/arena names. Yeah, it's kinda generically vanilla, but at least it's short and simple and doesn't automatically read/sound like a corporate-whore name.


Although it's still nowhere near as awesome of a name as the arena it replaced: "Chicago Stadium".

Kinda hard not to know exactly where you are with a name that simple and straightforward. Man, I dearly miss the old stadium.

there was lots of team relocation in the 1950s, which included 2 of the 3 NYC teams, the Boston Braves, the A's, and Browns, just to name the MLB teams.
the common thread is that this was when tv became popular, and all of a sudden teams started making their money from that more than just ticket sales. Radio was another revenue stream, but tv really kicked the broadcast dollars into high gear.
I was only half-kidding when I said the A's should relocate back to Philly. It would certainly be a nostalgia trip more than an economic calculation. the novelty and nostalgia would wear off after a season or two, then the two teams would both probably suffer hardship depending on how well they performed on the field.
side thought; if the Browns had moved to Kansas City instead of Baltimore, where they already had something of a fan base across the state, I wonder what the A's would have done-? probably moved to Baltimore instead.

Not really.

William Wrigley Jr. bought the cubs in 1926 and as the new owner of the team, he then changed the name of the stadium to his family name. Prior to then it was known as "Cubs Park".

He also owned a large chewing gum company with his family name on it.

Today, Wrigley the chewing gum company has nothing to do with Wrigley the field, and there never has been any corporate sponsorship or naming rights deal in place.
