It's annoying because throughout the pandemic the Asian Confederation has been playing most of its qualfying matches at neutral venues in the UAE and Qatar, which made things much easier than trying to travel to China or Japan or Australia.

Even in Africa a lot of matches were moved from smaller, unstable countries to Cameroon and Morocco for stability in qualifying matches. CONCACAF? Here's your ticket to Port-au-Prince.

I'm not too worried about Panama or Costa Rica away in March, but travelling to El Salvador in February to play a team that's already virtually eliminated isn't going to be fun. It's there and Honduras that are nightmares. Supposedly the Argentine team had a tough time in Chile this week - no A/C in the hotel, car horns and sirens all night...

We're in the dreamstime now! Unbelievable, simply unbelievable from Canada!

2-0 win against the US. We won't just qualify for Qatar, we could do some damage at the World Cup.

First team ever to go four games undefeated against both the US and Mexico in World Cup qualifying. Incredibly proud of this team and what they've been able to accomplish. El Salvador on Wednesday.

This win is huge and I would say a possible turning point in the history of Canadian sports. With hockey participation rates continually declining due to cost and time required by parents making the sport out of reach to most families as well as the rapidly changing demographics of Canada's population. Soccer and also gridiron football and basketball popularity in the country continues to grow where now NFL ratings are beating prime time HNIC numbers by a lot, basketball and soccer participation continues to grow and CFL popularity holds steady after a near death experience with covid-19. Hockey will still be king for a while in this country but the sports hierarchy is much more varied in this country than it has been perhaps ever in its history.

Gridiron football. ? It may be popular on TV but participation is low I would think and amongst adults very low. I never see adults playing it other than 'touch football' in the park. Are there 'beer leagues' for adults? Lots of options for that for hockey, softball/baseball, some basketball leagues in gyms, but 'gridiron' football is barely on the radar as a participation sport beyond high school football for those of us not heading to the pros, as far as I can see.

I have basically no interest in it. The Beautiful game is the only game for me, plus I play it generally year round.

Mexico, USA and Panama you can pretty much book it now. The rest of the region this cycle look like also-rans. New Zealand are generally quite bad at soccer so I'd have my money on whoever is fourth place here.

I've probably been the biggest doubter of where we were as of the beginning of last year.

Such an unbelievable turnaround in results. Kudos to the team and the coach for having the answers to whatever has faced them so far.

This is exciting. And it's kind of a weird one for me. I've been a dedicated fan of the world's greatest sporting spectacle for a long time now ("life is what happens in between World Cups"), but have always defaulted to pushing for England and the Netherlands, and have never really felt like I had any skin in the game.

It's going to be fun to be represented this time.

It is going to be stressful! Even the group draw is going to be exciting!

Word is that El Salvador might sit out tonight's game. Something about the players being in a fight with their federation.

Canada wins by forfeit?

The players reversed their position and will play, according to Diario de Hoy.

It's so exciting hearing neighbours in my apartment building screaming for Canada Soccer. It's so exciting that we have a good team, will qualify for the next World Cup and then be a host for the following Cup. I've been waiting for Canada to be a Soccer country and I feel like the moment has finally arrived! Really proud of this team and what it means for the future. And with our Women's team winning gold, and our country being a World Cup host, I think we've crossed a threshold, like in tennis, that we won't retreat from.
