Finally some (tentative) timeline on phase 4.

Note that extending the Central Tunnel is part of the scope for the current project, even though they don't anticipate needing it until 2047-2050.

Is that for a third terminal?

If so, I would think they will need an additional runway.

No, just the rest of the North Concourse.

As far as another runway is concerned, the master plan discovered that in the near term it would be far more beneficial to realign the East Runway to be parallel with the others, that along with a taxiway looping just south of the Center Runway sufficiently increase airfield capacity for the master plan's scope.

The tunnel is extending to the north of the North Concourse, so it seems it would be in anticipation for a third concourse. Or is that what you meant by "North Concourse" (Concourse C)?

North Concourse as referenced in the current redevelopment is Concourse B. Phase 4 is completion of Concourse B. The tunnel extending is in anticipation of a future Concourse C that is not a part of the current redevelopment or within the scope of the 20 year master plan.

I was answering Reeder's question there. I'll clarify.

There is one terminal and no plans for any others. There are two concourses referred to as North and South by the redevelopment project. South contains the A gates, North contains the B gates. There are plans for a future (20+ years out) concourse that would have C gates.

The Phase 4 I am referring to is plans to finish the North Concourse, it was not included on the scope of the current project so it happening sooner rather than later is very interesting. By the original plan the North Concourse would not be completed and the airport would end up with the same number of gates it had before the redevelopment.

Apologies for not being clearer.

I'd maaayyyybe guess Breeze considering they are headquartered here, and they've been focusing on second-tier cities, staying away from the biggest, although I think SLC would be the biggest airport they fly to by far if that's the case.

It’s Spirit Airlines. Daily nonstop flights to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Orlando starting May 26.

That's always been my guess. Provo more fits the mold of what Breeze wants. The only way I see them favoring SLC is if they want to set up any meaningful maintenance ops in Utah.

No idea if this is correct, but this recent article has the central tunnel now opening in October ‘23, which is a year earlier than announced, but is more in line with what the current progress looks like.
