I can tell already that, unless the floor to ceiling heights start changing dramatically, it is going to be significantly shorter than the Fed building.

Can't wait for the 14 storey Kaiser building to fill up the gap between the ziggurat and the Calstrs building.

I took these shots from the Yolo County dump on CR 102. It's highest point is
60 feet. As you can see, these photos are take ten years apart 2012 and 2022.
The cranes you see in the 2012 photo are of Sutter Medical Center’s expansion.
I love all the mixed-use construction happening at the street level, those are
the projects that actually improve the quality of life.

The New Sacramento Courthouse concrete has topped out and in January
the interior build out began. The core climbing forms have been removed.
Construction began in November 2020 and is estimated to complete in November 2023. Updates

Thanks for the pics, Mike. Much appreciated. The first pic certainty gives it a more magnanimous look whilst the view from the I St Bridge is the most accurate. And the approach into the city from said bridge is markedly more impressive.

It appears the demolition of the eastern portion of the State Capitol is under
way as both the stairs and portions of the granite exterior are being
removed as part of the billion-dollar-plus project. While the legislature and
Governor have already moved ahead making decisions about the Annex
plans behind closed doors, three lawsuits are still pending to challenge the
legality of the effort and could end up halting work midway.

I find it very odd to walk around the construction site and not seeing a single
sign posted about the project, almost as if the legislators are ashamed.
All the other state offices being built in town have giant posters with pictures
showing what will be constructed there someday. Even the monthly
newsletter concerning this project have not been sent out in over two years.
Remember, this is a $1.4 billion restoration, rehabilitation or reconstruction
of the current State Capitol Annex. Estimated completion date in 2025.

Pre pandemic this project made some sense to me (although not completely). Clearly the annex needs to be rehabilitated for fire safety, seismic retrofit and to meet ADA requirements. However, taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook to build a new Taj Mahal parking palace for legislators’ automobiles.

Secondly, with remote work for most State employees, we have a glut of State office space. There’s no reason that the State legislators and their staff can’t use the ‘swing space’ permanently. They just don’t want to walk across the street.

The State could rehabilitate the annex and eliminate the parking garage. If they continue to insist that the annex needs to be demolished, then they could restore the Eastern Capitol facade to its historical appearance and keep their offices at the ‘swing space’.

They’re ploughing full steam ahead and they will destroy the character of Capitol Park, all for a vanity project that we don’t need. We already know the new annex will resemble a suburban office building dropped in the middle of Capitol Park.
