Does anyone have any idea what the barriers at the northeast corner of 5th and Guadalupe are for? There was previously a rumor that HEB would build a store in the ground floor of that building's parking garage, but I don't know what the chances are of something like that really moving forward.

Here's the right of way closure permit for two weeks beginning this past weekend for 504 Lavaca. Maybe you can decipher it?

SO I was downtown today and saw the same thing.

It appears to be related to Hanover Republic Square but it seems kind of odd to me that they are closing the sidewalk off at the parking garage/WP Engine offices across the street and a block down from their own construction.

I'm assuming this means a crane is coming down.

Ah. Ok.. So it's a staging area for the Hanover crane removal.

This may be physical evidence to support what I mentioned regarding the LZR/bank block-soil testing.

From what I’ve been told Mellow Johnny’s is here to stay. LZR’s fate is uncertain.

The CVC is the height of the setback on the 360 Condos, so you could still build something a lot taller than what is there now.

Mellow Johnny's is great. LZR was great like 20 years ago. I don't even know what they do there now.

There was some office space in there. I believe it was also used as yet another private event venue. (How many of those do we need?) What LZR and Austin Music Hall were have largely been replaced by ACL Live now. There's not much to save LZR wise. Time to redevelop it.

Several New Towers Could Sprout Across Downtown Austin This Spring

https://austin.towers.net/several-new-towers-could-sprout-across-downtown-austin-this-spring/

The temperature outside is currently cold and dropping, but there’s a new day on the horizon — according to recent city permits and other development activity, we’ll see multiple downtown Austin condo, apartment, and office towers sprout in the coming months like the first flowers of spring. It’s clear that 2022 represents a big year for vertical downtown growth, even though at our current pace we’ve been able to say that nearly every year. Still, this time is a little different, with the potential tallest tower in the state now preparing to emerge from the shadows.

^^Awesome! I can't wait to see what impact there towers will have on the skyline! I also love the fact that Austin has built the majority of its towers downtown instead of spread all over the city in multiple highrise districts.

I agree, but we also do still need upzoning everywhere for both new highrise areas and “missing middle” housing.

100%. Eliminating single family zoning would be huge. I have no problem with single family homes, but if someone wants to build a duplex or triplex on the same lot they should be able to. It would help our housing shortage massively.
