I get that we are a smaller city, but the fact they are not working on this 24 hours a day 7 days a week to get it done seems mental to me. It probably comes down to workforce and those who have the skills to perform the work, but man it's ridiculous.
It's more ridiculous because even though we're a small city, the amount of goods/value of imports and exports that travel on that bridge is massive for a small province.

I do hope enough people have reached out to the proper channels to put in complaints. I cannot imagine dealing with 6-7 months of bridge closure for the next 6 years.

There is an interesting note on the CCD Canada website mentioning this project seeking quotations:

SAINT JOHN:

- DOMINION PARK, ADVENTURE CENTRE, PHASE 1
Anyone know what this is about???

EDIT - never mind, I found this document:
https://media.socastsrm.com/wordpress/wp...inion-park-master-plan-report-jan-19.pdf

Looks like a tremendous project!

Six of the twelve vacant SFH lots at the end of Anchorage, including four of the five remaining waterfront lots, sold this summer, from $55,000 to $260,000. I wonder if this will spur further development out this way. Two huge PIDs, I wonder who owns them? Millidgeville North sits on a crapton of land too.

Peter Pappas is selling his 571 Woodward Ave approved development. Just a guess but he probably has no capital to build the project and all the designs and approvals were to just sell a turn key project. Doubling the project to 225 units might have been to increase the value of the property.

Did work start on The Arlington in Millidgeville? Drove by last night - was dark but thought I spotted some excavation work and a sign.

I noticed the excavator too. It’s been moving rocks around for a couple weeks now. I can’t imagine any other reason it would be there other than to prep for the project. Perhaps they are digging for infrastructure upgrades in preparation for construction in the spring. I live close by so next time I’m by I’ll take a harder look.

I took a look today and I feel very confident it’s safe to say prep work for the Arlington is indeed happening. The sign you saw says Iron Maple a contractor company.

The Landmark

Has anyone heard anything about this project lately? It's been really quiet with this one.

I’m pretty sure this project isn’t slated for construction until 2023? I’m sure you can find information on it in the uptown thread.

Thanks. Didn't realize that it had a 2023 start.

Seven acres of waterfront brownfield on Milford Road just sold. Former incinerator site so I imagine there could be remediation needed.

I've heard a very credible rumour relating to AIM. Apparently they may be departing the waterfront at some point this year, for where, IDK. Another pair of cranes and expanded port capacity will replace it.

If this plays out, it will be the best news the Lower West Side has had in my lifetime, and a big boon for the uptown too. Everyone likes seeing the port humming, but the grinding, explosions, piles of scrap, etc are not what most would call normal port sights and sounds. I still don't know how millions of dollars get spent over decades to keep poop out of the harbour, then we go and let someone grind cars to dust inches from it. Like, talk about poor environmental priorities- I would rather see a floater or two than dust the bay with heavy metals.

The plans for Port Saint John and the expansion shows AIM being gone. Apparently that space is rumoured to be a new depot for overseas cars inbound to the North American market. At least that is what the press and videos from CP say. Either way, good riddance to AIM.

The Lorneville Industrial park would be a better spot for AIM. Isn't there a barge terminal down there?

Barges won't get their scrap to China for processing. Maybe one of the east side industrial parks with a rail line. Either way AIM would need an intermodal yard to get it on ships.

I mean, the very nice, pleasant, and respectable guy who owns the company threatened to pull out entirely the last time people got mad about the constant explosions. So they might just pull up stakes.

Belledune would be prefect for AIM I would think.

If AIM wraps up their operations any job losses would be made up from an expansion of the container terminal. CP Rail is quite literally begging the Port of Saint John to expand capacity so that CP can fulfill their wishes of making Saint John their east coast gateway. I’m pretty sure somewheres down the line we are set to get more Panamax cranes and if we expanded even more that means we have justification to bring in even more cranes which will bring more containers and more ships.

I know they are currently working to fill in the water slips and MP Long is working to secure more funding to complete the infill. He hinted recently he’s very close to getting it.

Whether it be cars or containers they are both far more pleasing to look at than AIM.

If this plays out and AIM is replaced by more cranes, more space for containers and car shipments. It may make some of the uptown projects a little more appealing for developers? Who may have heard noise complaints about AIM and were holding off breaking ground. Thinking of that one project with a render near Tin Can beach which is literally right across from AIM. With that gone, there might be more interest.

Same could be said for the building across from the terminal that is being tore down as we speak. Does this give more chance of someone putting up a 6+ story apartment building with the proposed steak house on top. If it's a "higher end" steakhouse on a rooftop patio, better to not hear explosions from AIM while eating lol.

There isn't an explosion every day, just often enough to piss off homeowners. But you make a good point about the sightlines- I wonder if the long planned southern half of the Harbourview Suites will happen (between the existing building and the Three Sisters).

The only planned major project in the city I'm completely bearish on is the TCB mega apartment building. It's called the Landmark for reference. I don't think it will happen. Mostly gut feeling. Timeline very long in a hot market. It just feels like a classic SJ failure to launch.
