LA traditionally hasn't been a city that's easy to warm up to...the reason for that I'm reminded of when going through this person's video. Not just so much due to what's still seen on the east end of temple st, but especially what's no longer visible on the west end, towards the fwy.

I recall that area being nothing but parking lots and a few small low end bldgs or houses. I now see the fauxtilian apt projs built by the palmer company....they can be razzed for their duplicated fake Tuscan design over & over again. But palmer did take formerly very marginal bits of land and turned them into spots where some life now exists....the parking lots they replaced were among the various parts of dtla in the past that always tested my patience with dt...in turn, the entire city.

but think of how it was even worse not too much even before then...back when bunker hill didn't have the music ctr & that entire part of dtla was very tired. 60-70 yrs is but a blink of the eye. How old are cities like London or NYC? Bunker hill started falling apart going back to the 1920s & even earlier.

I think that's the main reason why the truly remarkable city named LA has long seemed to punch below its weight class.

Great shots! The effect that both towers are going to have on that area is hard to overstate. Bring on the 8th & Hope Mitsui tower!

We all love Brookfield, despite for its height, for the glass treatment. Loving the dark glass. Imagine if it was given the cheap light blue tint. I don't think I would be able to stomach looking at it.

Is the Brookfield tower not getting any higher than the crane is now?

Once Brookfield & Mitsui are completed, they will form a square of towers surrounding the sunken mall, all different colors. White, Blue, Brown & Black. Will look very cool together.

How long has Oceanwide been paused now?

And between construction and its own pause, it feels like the May Company building on Broadway and 8th has been out of commission for...5 years now? 6?

Great shots, LAisthePlace! I love what The Grand does for the skyline from Grand Park.

headcheckjj, Oceanwide has been stalled for the better part of 1 1/2 years, but has had intermittent work done on it throughout that time. The May Company building on Broadway has been on hold since at least before the pandemic started in 2019, so coming up on at least 2 years or more.

Not development, I know, but figured everyone here would like it:

All shots seem to be at the intersection of Broadway/7th, except for the scene at 0:57 that seems to be on Hill between 6th and 5th—you can see old Pershing Square along the right side of the screen.

I like the Grand development overall, but I HATE the huge blank wall treatment it gives to Olive. Turns that stretch of Olive into a fortress for the next 50 years.

What a cool video!!! Los Angeles' street life was vibrant. What is taking so long today to build a dang'on streetcar on Broadway?? Does anyone have an update on the LA Streetcar on when groundbreaking will be

Also what a great vantage point of Brookfield Jun!

LAisthePlace... you really framed The Grand in a beautiful context, showcasing the scale and beauty.

While intriguing, I'd probably try to develop the cluster of surface lots bordered by Georgia, Olympic, Figueroa, and James Wood first.

I notice a lot of swapmeet stores appear to be closed...although the pandemic has made many small businesses, both bigger & smaller, nicer & not so nice, suffer over the past two yrs.

broadway is the one part of dtla that was better over 60 yrs ago....by contrast, other sections of dt are either as good as, or way better today than, they were during the first half of the 20th century.

The photo from jun shows how the properties south of 9th st, including the salvation army & that church...& certainly the parking lots....are in much greater need of replacement compared with the macys parking lot structure or, as homebucket mentioned, not building there after something is done to the fig at 7th parking bldg.....dtla is still full of a lot of priorities.

Even not that long ago back in the 1970’s to the early 80’s I was in my teens, Downtown LA Broadway Avenue was as just as busy, Christmas time was even more crowded than what you see in the old video. Instead of streetcars the streets were choked with buses, and mad gridlock. They even had traffic cops directing traffic during rush hour, Not to mention when it rain there was horrible gridlock. I remember working downtown when I was 18 and what normally took 45 minutes to get home on the bus, took two hours just to get out of downtown LA and this was in the early 80s.

It wasn’t until they change the traffic laws in LA for blocking an intersection. Although this helps all across the city because even when I worked in Beverly Hills and it rained, people would block the intersection and caused massive gridlock. It still took two hours in my car just driving the streets, to get home on a normal day was typically 50 minutes.
