That’s your imagination. But regardless, I’ve told you what the numbers were and are. Renderings aren’t some new invention. You should know better by now.

Right I know it wont be stainless. The other poster was asking if, because of this sunset rendering, they had changed to a gold-tone metallic. I was just stating there's no evidence of that. Champagne silver color is still silver.

This is where they were in one of the presentations….

This is just a golden sunset rendering. Not a complete one at that.

Hmmm, wonder if this possible that NYC can build more 500m+ skyscrapers before 2030.

500 meters equals 1640 ft. This one was cut capriciously. I doubt any NYC building will be as tall if any of the regulatory and approval boards have any say, or they ask for 'resident' input. You see what is happening to Empire District proposal and the Affirmation tower appears dead. NYC may not get another building taller than ESB if the boards and citizens have their say. We may see more fat short boxy buildings instead....

^^^^

Those tend to be for state owned parcels or developments or anything that has to pass through ULURP.

Most developments don't have to accommodate that community and if they do, its because of lawsuits or annoying NIMBY interference (sort of like a fly that keeps landing on your head over 6 hours and doesn't go away).

Merry Christmas all!

State governments have incredible power. Every so once in awhile NYS reminds the city who ultimately is the boss and will override the cumbersome regulatory process to allow something incredible to be built. Problem is it works both ways as something disasters could be built too.

The Port Authority along with its sites like the World Trade Center are exempt from NYC's zoning, but they voluntary comply these days. Brooklyn Yards also took some special actions by the legislature to be built.

Edit: Nevermind. I just caught up on the news. Quite unfortunate. But the project isn't dead, just stalled. We'll have to see what happens here.
How does it "appear dead" exactly? Because their haven't been press releases about it in a while? Since when has silence meant that a site was dead? It hasn't.

Affirmation tower isn’t “dead”, see that thread for what’s going on there. As far as how tall a tower can be, it all really depends on what’s being built. You arent gonna get many office towers above 1,600 ft. The key is mixed use, where there is less of an issue with condos or hotel rooms at that height. Even in the Empire Station district, there aren’t any caps on height, at least as it stands now. Primarily what determines how high a building rises would be FAR and use. Further, if you want to avoid a messy ULURP process, you can build as-of-right.

While I'm mixed to blah with my response to the height decrease, the proportions of the building may actually be better now IMO. Less monolithic and more streamlined and sleek.

But it’s still to early to say we have seen any final, definitive renderings. That last rendering, which is likely dated (and possibly of the all-office version), is of a bulkier looking tower. Eventually we will see more fine and detailed renderings. But one thing for certain, it will be gorgeous in any variation.

Those market rate prices are not bad considering the area.

It will be ineresting to see how far they go with the extended stay.

It may actually make more sense than a full-scale hotel given the area - it would appeal to business people who work with one of the midtown companies in another city/country that must stay in NYC for a few weeks for a special project. I would think many tourists would prefer to stay nearer to Times Square, Hudson Yards or even Penn Station instead of this area.
